Okay... sorry if this has been asked before, but i didnt find anything in search, just alot of spare parts offers and vague mentionings of flywheels.

I have sucessfully removed my transmission, and my clutch plate and disc (hoooleeeeeeshiiiaaat, that thing was worn down to the rivets!, shiny as hell it was so glossed over!! amazingly though the old flywheel looks untouched) but now im on the flywheel removal part.. and yeah its just not working.

How do i keep the damn thing still when trying to take the bolts off?

My dad told me there is supposed to be a hole or something you can stick a screwdriver through to catch on the engine on the other side, but no dice, the only holes that go through the flywheel are way to small for any screwdriver, and sticking the butt-end of a thin, long nail accomplishes nothing (the holes are just outside the flywheel bolts, before the contact surface. )

so yeah... im at a loss here... unless i can find a creative way to lodge a wrench on the teeth of the flywheel against teh firewall or other part.... im screwed.

Thanks for your help!

got access to an impact? if not, you could put a 27mm socket on the crank pulley and have that hold the crank stationary while you torque the flywheel bolts off.

Impact wrench - no dice :(

So... I'm having trouble imaging this in my mind (not at house currently to check) how exactly is the27mm socket stopping the crank from moving?

I.E. is it hitting something that prevents it moving, or am I to have a freind with a sockedwrench on the other side holding it in place while i do the work, or am I to attach something to the 27mm to wedge it still?

Sorry for always asking for further elucidations, but the last thing i want is to damage anything due to my own misinterpretations :P

Thanks again, and as always, i greatly appreciate your help man :D

Oh the 27mm is for the crank pulley bolt. That bolt should be on there real tight compared to the flywheel bolts. The flywheel bolts should give before the crank pulley bolt does. The crank pulley bolt is like 105-112 ft-lbs while the flywheel bolts are 69-76 ft-lbs. So the 27mm will keep the crank from moving if you've got someone else on the other side to keep that bolt from moving. You've just got to put a force on the flywheel bolts to get them off. Might help a bit to hose those guys down with some pb blaster or wd-40. I've had particular success with the valvoline synpower penetrating lube. Might want to give that a try.

Heh, alright, thanks for explaining. I'll have to put my buddy to work on that tomarrow when he stops by :)

and yeah... i sprayed down the flywheel with brake cleaner earlier tonight to clean off all that damned dust (my god there was thick layers of it on the inside of the flywheel.... was sick and annoying!) i was going to spray it down with some penetraiting oil tomarrow before i get ready to work on it much... then go and clean up the new flywheel and clutch plates with the brake cleaner while i let the spray do its work to penetrate and lube the buggers.

Thanks again for your replies, they have been extremely helpful!

peace.
