Use a breaker bar on the crank pulley bolt and either have someone hold it for you, or find a way to jam it up so the flywheel won't turn on you (the former is the better solution). Since I typically only pull a flywheel off when I have the motor out of the car, I can use the floor to stop my breaker from spinning.

Of course, if you have an impact gun, that solves all your problems.

The easiest way I found was to go to the hardware store, and buy a small length of chain, then buy a proper sized bolt that will fit into the flywheel. Bolt one end of the chain to one of the bolt holes for the pressure plate, and bolt the other end of the chain to the flange on the engine. Easy as pie.

when i did my clutch in the driveway, i removed the flywheel using two wrenches put them on oposite bolts, hold with one and brake loose with other. good luck with the last one lol.

^^ That's what i do, but i don't remove them only loosen themBut to get the last bolt out, i then take a screwdriver prop it between 2 of the remain bolts, then put the breaker bar on the end of that so it jams against the body. Wrench the last bolt loose and everything unscrews by hand from there. Follow this procedure to put the bolts back as well.

using the chain is super duper easy. I suggest people at least give it a shot once. Do it!

use a cheater bar, i use my 2 piece jack handle and use just one half, anyway i just stand it up verticle and let it rest on one of the dowel pins from the flywheel and use the weight of the car in my favor- then when you need to put it back on just move it to the right side of the flywheel dowel pin and torque it down.

this has been my favorite method for keeping the flywheel from moving, i use to use a socket and breaker bar on the crank pulley and let it rest against the power brace but most the time i just ended up spinning off the nut on the crank pulley. the bar on the dowel pin is the way to go, especially if you're doing the job by yourself

In the 5 speed swap thread that is stickied, i give a diagram of the 'chain' method and mention other ways to get it off. Impact gun is the easiest if you have one.

I have only met 1 person with an air gun at the personal disposal. When I replaced my transmission in the autoshop of my old high school though, it was a treat using the air tools.
