ok i did do a search but it only provided me with torque specs and which flywheel to buy. This is a pretty simple question to answer i would think. I can't get the bolts off my flywheel. I tried holding the crank pulley bolt with another ratchet and breaker bar but it just loosened the crank bolt. Are the flywheel bolts reverse thread? How did you guys get your flywheel bolts off? I need this flywheel off soon so any info would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Have someone wedge a thick bar or fat screwdriver to keep the flywheel from moving. Use a short heavy mallet. Give short hard blows to the handle end of the ratchet, will almost always work. Those are stubborn bolts, good luck.

the professional way to do this:use a pulley holder. you'll probably want a larger model, not a smaller one. it's like a vise-grip with a chain that wraps around a pulley, and it gets tighter the harder you try to turn it. make sure it's facing the right way, as it only tightens in one direction, loosens w/ greater torque in the other.now put your breaker bar and short, 12-point socket on the flywheel bolt. have an assistant hold the pulley holder while you turn your breaker bar.

and the torque spec is 76ft*lbs. if you overtorque this you'll be one of those people complaining about rattling sounds or a flywheel explosion. yes, the bolts are overengineered some, so lots of people have gotten away with torquing past this point, but at some point the bolt will start to neck, and it will be MUCH weaker after this, even if you can't see it.

good luck getting those suckers off some day when you wanna replace the flywheel.when i had trouble getting my flywheel, even with another person holding it, i couldnt get the bolts to loose. so i found a way to stick a open ended wrench between a bolt on the flywheel (where the pressure plate connects) and one of the bolts to hold the transmission on. after that it was simple as turning the flywheel and placing the wrench whereever i needed it.

You do want to get them off eventually no?

Blue loctite will hold the bolts in there but won't prevent you from loosening them when you want to.

quick trick that i have used is a stubby socket .. bind it against the flywheel teeth and the alignment dowel pin coming out of the block. Its hard to explain but essentially u just set the socket on the dowel pin and spin the flywheel till a tooth catches.

I have done it this way a couple of times and have NEVER had a problem.

but, easiest thing to do is have someone with a impact just come zip them off for you.. save urself the trouble.
