I posted in the KA forum but I dont think it gets enough traffic and I gotta solve this now.

I am in the middle of a horendous 5 speed swap and the bottom of the flywheel is still exposed when I bolted everything up which is obviously wrong. What is supposed to go there? I have the plates from my auto trans & the top one might fit but the bottom definately wont.

Any insight?

you need those brackets off a 5speed, the auto ones don't work.

Shouldn't have anything to do with brackets. Its the plate that goes between the flywheel and engine.

^Good Call, Biggie, I usually forget about that.^
Things you need for a 5speed swap.

trans/crossmember/driveshaft
gussets(brackets from motor to trans)
Clutch master cylinder/pedal/hardline
flywheel/clutch/dustshield
and all the bolts pretty much too.

Brake pedal if you'd like

Yeah when doing research for the swap NO WHERE & NO ONE lists the gussets or dustshield. s***.

I think I might do a more detailed write up because even the ones on here lack working photos and leave out a bunch of stuff.

There are 2 peices to the dustshield right? Top & bottom?

I manual swapped my old daily driver and i didn't have that there. Only reason was because i didn't want to wait to order one because it was my daily and it had to be done in a day. Drove it without issues for 2 years and even in the winter time.

The auto one is 2 piece. the manual one is a single sheet of metal.

So what are we talking about in this thread?

Are you missing the gussets or the trans dust shield?

I am missing both, which means the trans is held on by 5 bolts, including the starter bolts.

I may have to run with it like this & pray nothing happens until I can get the parts and then take it back apart again.

FYI, to install dusty shield you need to take off the flywheel. or try to modify the auto dust shield to fill that space.

Thanks bb. f*** that lol

Ive been looking at ways to modify the lower peice of the auto one and I think that Ill try that. Ill post in here if/when I figure somethin out.

BTW West Covina Nissan said it would be $90 for the gussets/shield, but they dont carry the gussets anymore.

I've been driving without my cover for a good while now. I was just too lazy to take apart the motor/transmission to put it on. I've been fine driving it. However I would highly recommend the gussets as explained.

I drove mine for over a year with just the auto dust cover, nothing bad happened. If everything is already installed don't worry about it.
