What is everyone using for their flywheel bolts? I ordered 4 extra bolts from Nissan for a Z32 300zx at almost $11 apiece, only to find out that they are barely long enough and the bolts off my VG33 only engage one thread.

A little searching around on the net shows that Ford's Modular 4.6L and 5.4L use the same M10x1.0 bolt pattern. I found an ARP kit, but I can't find the length of the bolts anywhere.

The 300zx bolts are 27mm from under the head. VG33 bolts were 21mm.

What's everyone using?

I went to MSL (Fortress Fasteners) and just ordered some high tensile bolts to the length specified.

Are you sure you have flywheel bolts and not flexplate bolts? I know they are approx 10mm shorter (flexplate). I have some somewhere but cant easily find them to measure them. However I have bought some new and they were exactly the same as factory flywheel ones and obviously long enough. What different bits are u trying to mount up? As if you have used the zed flywheel on the vh the bolts are effectively the same configuration and will be long enough. Pretty sure I have done this in the past with no hiccups whatsoever.

I did try looking around for them a little bit in a high-tensile and didn't find anything in that size except special flywheel bolts like ARPs and the factory bolts. I'm just trying to mount up a NA Z32 flywheel to the VH.

I think the bolts made for the Z32 are long enough, but even they don't engage all that much. I think only a couple of threads. The important part is they torque correctly and the 4 I had did torque just fine. I guess I was really just curious if everyone is using Z32 bolts (or maybe all the VG30s have longer bolts than VG33s?). Who knows...I really expected them to all be the same length but the VG33 bolts are 6mm shorter than the bolts I ordered from a Z32.

All the bolts I'm dealing with here are from a manual transmission vehicle. I did find the stock bolts to the VH for the driveplate and they were much shorter than even the VG33 bolts.

Fastenall, usually can get high tensile strength Metric in M10 x 1.0, lengths are not usually a problem, and since they are all over the US, that would be a good place to start.I love ARP, i have never broken one of their studs or bolts. How many full threads are in?, If you pull the flywheel, insert bolt, and measure its mounting threads, you should get a good idea of how far you want/need. 5 full threads would be a start. Is flywheel fully seated on crank?

The flywheel is fully seated. That's the first thing I thought of myself and did double check that. The stock VH spacer is NOT being used either.

I will have to check how many threads the 300zx bolts go in. I really think it's less than 5 threads.

Something funnies going on. Pretty sure they usually sit in approx 10mm or 10 threads. Also from memory there is only around 3 or 4 mm extra inside the crank as I found the bottom:) This was some time ago, sorry I cant give any better answers.

Thanks a bunch...really appreciate the responses. I guess I should take another look at it and see if I can find anything weird going on. I'll have to double check again and see how far the Z32 bolts are engaging.

Yeah, I about dumped a load when the guy told me how much those bolts cost too. I only needed 2 thankfully.

Imagine my shock when getting some bolts from BMW for a 06 M3's rear suspension the other day. $35(us) x6. Damn things must have flown first class from Germany.

Holy #$@@%^&. No wonder the things always get totaled in what seem like minor accidents.
