i removed my engine yesterday and took apart the transmission from the engine and removed the clutch but now i need to take off the flywheel to have it resurfaced. how do i get the 6 bolts out of the flywheel? when trying to remove them the flywheel will spin counterclockwise which makes it impossible to remove the bolts. how do stop the flywheel from spinning with the bolts?

or chain wrench, bar with chain that raps around the teeth so you can hold it still

put another wrench on the front of the crank and have a friend hold it or wedge it into a corner or somethin

beat me to it. I generally put a breaker bar on the front (1 1/16th socket needed) and wedge the bar against the floor

I tried that, but I started to rock the motor, so I just got the impact. But for putting them back on, you need to do that, cuz you don't want to use impact on those bolts.

what i did was put one of the transmission bolts back into the hole and wedged a small wrench against the flywheel teeth and that worked great and i didnt bust any teeth off. that is what the chiltons manuel said to do kinda.

you dont need to get it resurfaced, just sand it with some 300ish grit hand sand, then really clean the poop out of it with carb/brake cleaner.

trust me on this one.matt

Just to add, the flywheel bolts get torqued the same as the crank bolt, 115 ft-lbs IIRC. In other words you don't have to worry about overtorquing one or the other if you use a breaker bar on a bolt to brace the other.

My impact = 450ft/lbs of torque. It WILL snap a bolt.Besides, even if you overthighten the bolt, the bolt strech will make it weaker. Thats why you torque the suckas!!!!!!
