Why is this news? Did somebody really think that driving while high on drugs was any less dangerous than driving drunk? UGH!

Darn it, I was hoping a pilot was flying while stoned.

I would love to be a driving impairment-detection cop. Specially trained to determine what drugs people are on.

Then screw with them.

Ahhh, I'm curious to see more info on the percentages of who was on what drugs. The spectrum can become very large when their sample contains....

"Drugs included illicit or street drugs, as well as legally prescribed drugs and over-the-counter medications."

That can be everything from marijuana to benadryl.

Oh, and in case you think you’re getting away with something, smoking that joint or driving after doing cocaine or meth, think again.
Before reading this article, I was going to pilot the Saab on meth. I guess now I'll just keep it confined to my kitchen.

This is true and exactly what I was thinking. Im sure much more accidents/deaths happen when high on meth or especially halusinagens <- screw spelling. Things like that really f*** you up, not that I would know but I have seen "Addicted" and "Intervention" I can even see pain pills being high on theat list. Still, I think weed would be somewhere towards the bottom. Is it 100% legal yet??... no?... dammit.

I have seen people just fvcked up to death on Benadryl and Robitussin. Wouldn't want them anywhere near a vehicle.

I got detained (basically arrested) once because a cop thought I was popping E pills when they were generic Tums. Simply because I had them in a plastic baggy.

^LOL thats so funny you say that. This just happened to one of my friends.

ok so he was walking home one night at like 2am. Since its all the sudden cold as balls out he wore a coat from last year for the first time this year. A cop pulled over and asked where he was going so late. He agreed to be searched but unknowingly had a ciggarette selafane wrapper with 2 tylonol 3's in it. He got arrested, fingerprinted, de-shoelaced and taken to a detaining cell until like 630am when they tested it to be only tylonols. Cab ride home was $50. Lol, thats what he gets. Lets just say he is extra lucky he didn't have anything else on him as he usually does.

Benadryl messes you up?? My stupid cousin used to eat a box of generic cold medicine for a trip. I bet it destroys the liver.

Doesn't bother me but some people are REALLY sensitive to it. It's actually kind of hysterical to watch.

Benadryl is a powerful deleriant at high doses. Problem is it's also an anti-cholergenic and causes heart problems, increased urinations, and low blood pressure. Why people take that s*** to get high is beyond me.
I watched an associate take 400mg of the stuff while at a party...night did not go so well for him.

I had a wicked allergic reaction one time and over-reacted a bit by downing half a bottle or so of kids liquid benadryl. Very lousy experience, I was soooo sleepy but couldn't sleep to save my life. Hated it.

The stats they posted only show that people get in accidents while drugs are in their system, not active.

Say smoke marijuana on Tuesday and get in an accident Wednesday or within the next week or so, they can test and say you were under the influence.

Not saying they don't hinder your ability to drive (I believe they do) but the statistics are s***. Annoying.

edit: Only one line stated this. I still feel the article is really misleading.

"The NHTSA cautioned that drug involvement does not mean the driver was impaired or that drug use was the cause of the crash."
