Does the Q70 with AWD and 5.4 engine have Fly by wire steering?

As I mentioned in the other thread in the Y50 forum, this is a 5.6, not a 5.4 :gapteeth:. That being said, as for the car, I believe cable driven...not drive-by-wire.

It's a 5.6L and I don't think they have electric power steering, I know my M56 doesn't. I believe only the hybrid has a combination conventional and electric system. But I could be wrong. :gotme

Thanks guys. I feel a little better having a direct steering connect at the speeds this thing can do. Thanks for the motor size correction too. But to be honest I don't care much about the size of the holes I have to fill with a gas mix, it could be a 6.0 or 8.0, all I care about is hp and torque. Well, a few other things too. As long as I can knock off a few muscle cars I am happy. I have a friend with a 1974 Corvette. I want to take him on. But I am not sure if this car can do it.

Cable driven steering? If it ain't a plane, that's scary....

Side note, if it ain't Boeing, I'm not going ;)

Drive by anything, the transmission is pretty awesome on manual shifts. Faster than I can do them even if it had paddles. Double clutch? This one I intend to beat the snot out of it, if I can. I had it for two days when I found a road to let it go for awhile. Hit 130 and was climbing before things were going by so fast I got scared. Backed down to the 100-110 range and did another 50 miles.
Loved every minute. This car is not about looks or electronics, its really a performance machine and likes a good beating.

Based on what I see on the Infiniti website, only certain Q50 models have direct adaptive steering (Hybrid, Premium and Sport models only)

The hybrid Q70 models have:
"Unlike other hybrids which deliver a detached steering feel from their pure electric power steering systems, the Infiniti Q70 Hybrid uses a unique vehicle-speed-sensitive Hybrid-Electric Power Steering (H-EPS) system that uses an electric motor to create hydraulic oil pressure to provide a familiar and natural steering feel while enhancing fuel economy"

Infiniti has reportedly refined the "drive-by-wire" steering on The newer Q50s, most of the complaints initially about the system is that it felt too artificial and obviously the sense of connection with the road, which made the G series popular was completely lost.

One of the car enthusiast mags/shows needs to do a blinded comparison test to see what drivers seem to prefer now that the system has been refined.

If you lose to that Corvette, you need to give your driving license back :chuckle: . Your M will destroy that Corvette as you have almost 2x the car. Unless the Corvette isn't factory/stock and is insanely modified engine wise.

Sorry, I didn't read the steering part of the original post. I thought this was referring to throttle hahaha. My bad.

The throttle is DBW, not cable. Far as I know the steering is a conventional rack and pinion and the Sport cars with 4WAS have electric steering in the rear.

What happens on these "electric motor" steering systems if the battery is dead (or weak were car won't start)? Can you still push the car and steer it to move it out of the way? Like when the battery died on my M37 which was parked in front of the garage so I had to push it (and steer it) out of the way to get the wife's car out to go to work.

The steering wheel is still connected to the steering rack. So even if power is lost the vehicle can be steered same as a hydraulic system. To say steer-by-wire is technically incorrect on most cars. True steer by wire systems still have a connection to the steering rack, but it does not engage unless there is a problem.

The JX35/QX60 has it as well.

It's still directly connected. It just has an electric ps pump. It still uses fluid and operates based on hydraulic pressure. IMO, the electric steering is FANTASTIC. The DAS system is incredibly intelligent and makes for a much better driving experience.
