Today while getting fuel I did a quick look under the hood of my 96q [ 103000 miles ] and noticed a puddle of fluid in the valley under the plenum, cant really tell what it is,antifreeze or possible oil spilled from prior oil change? are there any other fluids that could leak into this area other than coolant? are there any oil lines in this area?what should I do next?

I had a seep of coolant that developed into a real puddle when I was out of town. Even though I had the complete under plenum hose kit being pulled by Joe, I had to have the clamps tightend by the dealer. Had to pull the plenum. Ouch!

Never have seen a $400+ hoseclamp before.

So my advice is schedule a plenum removal session over the holidays. I should have done it, but I was mistakenly convinced I needed the hoses, when just the clamp was the issue at the time. Only ~30K miles when service performed.

Failure to use all Nissan hoses or failure to prepare hoses or failure to not tighten hose clamps to the correct torque will result in an under Plenum leak even after you get all plenum hoses replacement. They lasted 70-80k from the factory so expect replacements [properly installed] to last at least the same......depending on local air quality and temperature conditions.

When I replaced my under-plenum hoses, I was surprised at just how thin-walled the big coolant bypass hoses were. (Y-shaped aluminum-and-hose affair running from top of water pump to middle of each cylinder head) My expectations were set by American cars where nearly every hose has 1/4-inch walls.

Judging from mine, these hoses are also susceptible to little nicks and slices, but I'm not entirely sure that they weren't sabotaged, causing the coolant leaks.
