93 s13. engine idles from 700-1500 intermittently. ive checked the tps and adjusted it accordingly, checked and set timing, did complete tune up... from what ive read, the iacv is the culprit. do i have to replace it or can it be taken apart and cleaned? i dont want to pull it and spend the money on a new one ($120+) if i can just clean it up.

How does it drive? 'Cause I had the same problem, and all I had to was clean my fuel filter out. For me, it was sputtering pretty bad, and that was causing erratic idling and crappy take off. Try that 'cause it's free (except for the dimes worth of gas that you spill), and it doesn't hurt even if it didn't need cleaning.Or you can always replace it w/ a 300Z fuel filter. I have mine, but too lazy/busy to do the install.Besides that, there are other things like the MAF, AIV etc., but try out the free stuff first ;)

well, so far, ive replaced the fuel filter, installed a cai, msd6+, blaster coil, n2o, hs header and 3" exhaust with new sparkplugs and ngk wires... runs beautiful, lots of power and sounds great... its just at idle... it dips low, then raises a little. thought it was a vacuum leak at first, but checked all of the lines with a spray bottle and replaced the bad egr valve hose... only thing i can think of would be the iacv...

make sure the throttle plate is closing all the way at idle,i got boogered up a little after my swap by not hooking up the coolant lines to the TB. the cold start thing was holding the plate open a crack causing it to idle like that. removed the cold start thing and all was well.

ok, i checked the butterfly valve, and from what i can tell, its moving all the way open to all the way closed. i even moved it with a screwdriver to make sure... it sure ACTS like a vacuum leak, but im sure its not.

No - it isn't a vacuum leak - it IS the IACV. Replace it - there is no fixing it. I hunted around a brand new blueprinted KA24E for weeks trying to find a vacuum, ignition or fuel leak and got nothing. I went to a Nissan mechanic I knew and he told me flat out - replace the IACV dude! Did that - got better but not great, then found out you have to disconnect the battery and let it sit for at least 10 min - I did an hour, and then reconnect it. That resets the ECU learned maps - THAT did it - never had an idle wander again. It sucks and is embarassing on a car you just spent so much $$ on. Just hung a turbo on it and will be ready to try that out in a few days - imagine what a jumpy idle would do to that........Stop hunting -go get an IACV and follow the instruction and setup steps to get it in there. Remember the IAA is over there in that circuit and can also get you - you will know if you follow the troubleshooting steps. Good luck -
