Hi All,

My temperature gauge goes up occasionally when Im driving. In idle, it stays at normal temperature (3rd line up). The gauge goes up quick, almost to H, when accelerating at moderate RPMs (3.5 - 4) and will drop back to normal when I stay off the gas. This ONLY occurs from time to time. Most of the time it stays at normal temperature, but looks like it wants to go up.

It has never done this before, but I have just finished doing some mods recently (1 week ago). Here is what I have done:

Change clutch/flywheelReplace TransmissionShort ShifterCluster

Can this be because of any of my recent mods? I have done a couple searches and could not find any solutions that worked. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

i am with him replace the temp sending unit, also if you having replaced the cap in a while wouldn't hurt. be sure to bleed the coolant system after installing the sending unit, cause trapped air can make the gauge do funny things.

I shall replace the coolant sensor, cap and bleed, and see what happens. I will follow up soon. Thank you all.

Could also be the clutch fan, I would make sure the engine is not overheating before buying the sensor. U might actually be overheating.

another note on the thermostat make sure the jiggle ball is up top if you replace, there really isn't a repair manual on these cars that is worth a flip that i know of, and i read somewhere on here a while back it needs to be on the top, and a mechanic at the nissan dealer told me also

The OEM gauge is not really accurate anyhow. You should get a nice aftermarket type.

Ok, so I forgot to mention that I was running low on coolant the other day. Hence, I filled up the reservoir and topped off the rad.

As soon as I got home from work today, I popped the hood and saw that my rad had lost a quarter of coolant. Im guessing I have a leak somewhere, but there are no visible signs of leak. Where is the coolant going and why?

Possibly leaking into the combustion chambers and getting burned? Does your exhaust fume give off a sweet smell?

I cant distinguish the smell, but I hope its not burning with the oil. If thats the case, I would need a new head gasket??

Anyway, I will check the oil if it looks like theres coolant mixed in tomorrow. I'll also clean up my engine really well to see if there are really no leaks coming out and go from there. Ill keep you posted...

you need to bleed the cooling system, and find out why you were low
