I'm probably gonna get flamed for this very idea but someone at work suggested this to me - a super 40 flowmaster muffler on the 240.

I'm not a huge fan of the fartcan sound, at the same time I don't wanna sound like some mustang either. I'd love to sound somewhere near a subaru, with that rich deep tone.

Anyone ever heard or heard of this?

I ran a 30" cherry bomb and that was nice and low, but it still sounded good in the top end.

I love flowmasters, but you will make more hp with a straight through design and you might also run cooler. If is sound you looking for then I guess is good.

That's opinion enough for me not to do it.

Dittoz7 - I googled BRM mufflers but couldn't find a store online, just forum chatter. Any idea where I can get more info?

tones and pitches will slightly change with different exhausts depending on shape and piping size.... but its not going to completely change the sound of the whole engine... with almost every 240 I've seen/heard, I can almost tell straight out if it has a KA or SR, regardless what kind of exhaust it has. Your car isn't going to sound like a mustang because it has a mustang style exhaust...

Thank you matt.

After perusing the above page, I think ill go with the BRM. Something about an exhaust made for 240's by a nissan enthusiast screams good things. That and the twin tip is low key and stock looking. The exhaust I have now looks similar, but its a Megan racing cat back that came with the car when I bought. Wasn't my first choice.

All opinions are appreciated!

HKS. I was gonna say...but you don't like the can type. HKS sounds good on a 240.

This reminds me of the sentra I used to have. I completely ran the little 1.6 motor with a straight through ( no cat and resonator) with a flowmaster super 40. I mean it was the loudest thing I ever drove. Coming round the block, I saw kids playing on the street covering their ears when I passed by them. When cops was behind me, I could barely accelerate my car fearing that may stop me. however, due to the low profile looking, they left me alone. They probably thought I had a broken muffler@! I couldn't stand the noise...the next day went back to the shop and asked for my old exhaust back.

As long as you have a good resonator, you can't really mess up that bad.

Does a cherry bomb do anything besides make noise? Flowmaster would be a better way to go IMHO.

This site has them as cheap as I've seen them - http://www.autoanything.com/ex....aspx

i'm actually gonna run a 3inch (no cat, not res.) with a CherryBomb Vortex muffler this summer on my Sr20det

according to them and their charts the cherrybomb vortex muffler flows more than the cherrybomb stright thru red muffler

Turbo muffler 290 cfmelite muffler 412 cfmpro muffler 470 cfmextreme muffler 500 cfmglasspack 510 cfmVortex 578 cfmstright pipe 3inch 598

and that's why i'm going with the Vortex!http://www.cherrybomb.com/products/

It's probably a moot point now, but I ran a 40 series Flowmaster on my 240SX. I really liked the way it sounded. It had a deep throaty growl that was never obnoxiously loud. It was even pretty quiet at idle.

I liked it enough that I would do it again on my next 240.

I used to have a sound clip of it before the webhost ate it. The new owner is somewhere around here on NICO, perhaps he'll record it an add it for reference to the thread.

This should work, P.S., Photobucket sucks for videos. Let me know what you think.

Yeah, it is kinda moot now. Still interesting/surprising to hear that so many people have run flowmasters/magnaflows/cherrybombs. I figured most people ran import stuff like HKS or Greddy.

Flowmaster makes all cars sound the same (like a Mustang with Flowmaster), at the expense of actual flow.

I have the Flowmaster 1055 and love it, you can usually find a used one on ebay or craiglist but I prefer new with a warranty so I got bought from Flowmaster directly here. Flowmaster 1055, or you can try one of the sponsors here on the forum, they are allways having sales/specials. Either way its a great exhaust system, sounds great, and very easy to install.
