DRIVER LICENSE AND VEHICLE INSPECTION CHECKPOINTSThe Florida Highway Patrol will be conducting driver license and vehicle inspection checkpoints during the month of February on the below listed locations in Okaloosa County."Recognizing the danger presented to the public by defective vehicle equipment, troopers will concentratetheir efforts on vehicles being operated with defects such as bad brakes, worn tires and defective lighting equipment," an FHP press release states. "In addition, attention will be directed to drivers who would violate the driver license laws of Florida. Yeahh, they'll probably ticket you if you have a loud/aftermarket exhaust. State patrol officers are pretty strict about it.

I'm actually okay with stops for critical safety equipment like brakes and lights. "Victimless" offenses like CARB enforcements and random emissions checks are most definitely horsepucky. But brake light checks aren't hurting anyone aside from a little lost time.

There are simply WAY too many idiots driving around oblivious to the fact that they have NO tail lights. They'll NEVER check them. The idea doesn't even occur to them. The lights won't get fixed until their next safety inspection. That could be a long time.Frankly, I'm in favor of a $2000 fine to anyone driving around with NO working tail lights. If you have one lamp out, I can understand that. But if you have two out, it means you need to pay more attention. The fine should help ensure you do.There are also too many people with burnt out CHMSLs. At night with modern cars it can often be hard to tell the difference between brake and tail lights when the CHMSL is out. That's straight up dangerous.

If people weren't such clueless, oblivious, ignorant, stupid morons, then crap like this wouldn't be necessary. But if roadblocks are what it takes to get people to put working f***ing lamps in their smegging tail lights, I'm all for them.

This is crap you can be pulled over for anyway (lights at least) so consolidating the stops isn't really much of a change. It just means fewer officers can do more good. If you're STUPID enough to be driving around with no tail lights you deserve to have some sense shocked into you.

And I'll ask again the question I've asked many times before:Why the HELL is there a single car produced today that doesn't immediately and specifically notify the owner when any exterior lamp dies? We have tire pressure monitoring sensors in everything but only luxury car drivers are worthy of dead lamp notifications?

I Love How None Of This Applies To South Florida.

They Would Need A Couple Of Months Not Weeks.

LOL

Sad but true...

Here, an announcement is given when cops are gonna crack down on people speeding/reckless driving...and where they are going do this, etc.

Last time they did that, they let us a know about 2+ weeks before it happened. Probably would have been more effective if they didn't announce it...

Agreed, I have had way too many close calls with people driving their truck/car with no working brake lights...scary stuff.

Checkpoints are for drug-related property seizures. They tell you its for your safety to get you on board and generate a little revenue.

Jackasses.
