Strangely, that spec seems to be absent from my FSM...

I do mine at 36, but the minimum is 33 and the max is 40. You're okay!

It's good you're asking questions and allowing us to kinda semi-monitor your build and honestly dude, you're doing a damn good job. As long as you listen and take heed to those who have been where you're trying to go, you'll be just fine.

i think i could actually mess up a solid block of titanium before i could ruin cereal. if i had a large block of titanium i would probably try to ruin it.

Yah, thanks alot you guys. As far as im concerned, you cant learn anything unless you ask questions.....or read alot....or both

the only thing in my build that scares me is my ring end gap clearancing....

total seal recommended .010 .020 inch for clearance for that bore range, so i went .020...which is just over factory spec....the only thing that scares me is that i filed them...its all i had. but i rotated the engine quite a bit and had no marks show up. so i think its ok

you should be fine. unless you really hacked them i wouldnt worry. i done way shadier things and those engines all run fine. in fact...that one i REALLY botched still runs better than it did new!

uuuh, name it. dude tried to cut corners by getting me a "running engine" which wasnt even worthy of boat anchor duty. bent pushrods, scored bores, rocks in oil pan, etc.

i made a running engine out of three different ones. the age difference in these engines was about 20 something years. the crank was terribly machined and was about 20thou out in some places, and as little as 7thou in others. i used a wide range of different bearings and shims and whatnot. i honestly didnt expect it to last 10 miles, but its been a year and it absolutely purrs. this wasnt a nissan engine by the way, it was a 258ci jeep.

well i didnt cut any corners with this one, cept that i couldnt find a ring grinding tool ANYWHERE...otherwise i would have bought it, 20$ or 200$, doesnt matter.

i know for a fact my bearing clearances are spot on, plastiguage is my friend, i plastiguaged 3 times total just to make sure hahaha

the only other worry is because of my crappppppy ring compressor, some of them may have moved from their positions a bit, like, spun in the groove so that the gaps arent 180 degrees away from eachther...

i doubt they did.....like theres a 10% chance, but if they did, what would that do.

you're gonna be fine dude. i did none of that and my engine has sustained many thousands of miles of abuse.

Filing the ring ends is fine. Did you file from both ends, or just one?

You'll prob be OK if you did just one side, but both is preferable.

Hey, when building engines attention to detail makes a HUGE difference.
