Well all my stupid friends that think they know s*** about cars are telling me a car (especially my "s*** 240") will flip when your drifting in the snow or rain and you suddenly catch traction. So whos dumb me or my firends?

A car with a low center of gravity is unlikely to flip, but it is remotely possible.

This is what happened this year during an autocross to a car that was sliding a little bit and caught traction. Flipped over on its top. Granted this sprint was on stock suspension with Hoosier racing slicks, so that changes things a bit.

i wouldn't worry too much about it. But don't f up your car "Drifting" in the snow.

You're far more likely to break something than flip.

You'd need to be going pretty fast to have enough momentum to flip in a 240. Ford Bronco II, maybe.

I've gotten my old corolla up at 45 degrees when we were messing around in the snow...but I hit a hidden curb.

Nah, you're friends are stupid. It's very difficult to flip a small car like a 240 or something similar while drifting. Like, you'd have to physically try to flip it. Unless you're on Hoosiers apparently. But who drifts on slicks anyway?

The sprint wasn't drifting, just taking a tight 90 degree turn back end stepped out, carnage ensued.

You need new friends.

Preferably ones that know something about cars (and driving).

Especially if they are calling you stupid about something they really obviously know nothing about.

You'd have to hit a curb or some sort of other raised immovable object to have a remote chance of rolling.

The sad/funny part is that they go to vocational school for auto tech. And there is literaly no one in my school that know s*** about cars except for my one friend and we proved them wrong today because we were "drifting or sliding with a lifted jeep and a mini van lol :lolling:

I would say that you are far more likely to have that happen with a IRS trailing arm suspension then a world-class multi-link like the 240 has...

Like the S12 or Z31...

^ lol yeah I had people like that in my class. This one dude said he drifts his busted EF Civic regularly. A$$ draggin is what it is, if that.

I agree that no or very unlikely. And, ,in snow I think it would be very unlikely to suddenly grab traction since the tires and grooves will be stuffed in snow, and they would be very cold with not much grip if it were to meet clean dry tarmac.

Rain.. maybe. I have suddenly grabbed traction on wet roads an hour after it rained. I nearly wrecked my moms car. This as an Eclipse but it wouldve been on its side if it was a light truck

This is what it comes down to.

To flip the car you need to lift the car up, in order for it to roll the CG needs to rise. For most small cars it needs to rise a good few inches.

The tire needs to be able to provide enough force to lift the CG as the car flips, this means you either have a long lever from tire to CG (tall vehicle), grippy tires (racing slicks), or something on the ground that will catch the wheel so that the momentum can change enough to provide the force needed to actually lift the car up onto its side.

this

you're more likely to pop the damn tire off the bead than grab enough traction to flip the car

you'd have to have a hell of a lot of grip to grab enough traction to make that thing go over
