Not weak enforcement... it's a protected right.

However they are not American citizens, so they don't have American rights. I think that all non-American arabs should be searched more thouroughly. Wrong? Don't think so... did you see any Bob Jackson's on that 9/11 list? Nope I sure didn't.

I'm not a racist, I'm a realist.

If I wrote a story like that about a group of Kenyas, or Norwegians, or Japanese, would you call me the most paranoid person on earth? If the TSA performs 'random screenings', how can it be illegal for them to search more than 2 Arab-looking people on the same flight?Doesnt Detroit have the largest Arab population in our country? Would that explain the 'freak occurance' of 14 Arab men (a group of 6 plus 8 individuals) on the same cross country flight?

Nismo, should an Arab named Bob Jackson get searched? Should a Arab-looking black, Hispanic, or even white man be searched? Or do you let him pass when you learn his name is John Smith?THink about racial profiling. It is inherently discriminatory (its built on the principle of discrimination). Would it ever be beneficial if the result of racial profiling was that a white person would be likely to commit a particular crime? How would it be helpful to learn that 70% of our population is the 'prime suspect'??Or would you say its only considered useful if the conclusion is that a minority is likely to commit this crime?

thats ****ed up. But all that isn't necessary, you know....an older woman carried a loaded .45 caliber revolver in her purse onto a plane in charleston, WV's yeager airport, and only as the plane was taxiing to the runway did she "remember" that she had the firearm on board, and immediatly reported and surrendered the weapon to the stewardess. The plane immediatly turned back to the terminal, the woman was arrested, and charged with a variety of offenses. I never heard if she was convicted of any.

Actually, everyone can be a suspect. But we do know that Islamic terrorlst groups are actively planning strikes. So is it wrong to take precautions? This protects all innocent people including middle easterners. If there was a group of radical Koreans actively plotting terrorlst attacks, I certainly would have no objection to submitting to a more thorough search(unless it involved a latex glove). It's kind of akin to people who get offended for being asked for ID when making a financial transaction. They may feel the person asking for ID does not believe who they say they are, but in reality, there are people out there who pose as others to commit fraud. The person asking for ID is really protecting the people and themselves from the real criminals.

But another reality is that people do take offense to this and may be more sensitive to it than I. Any thing that can be percieved as discrimination can get blown out of proportion even though there is good intent. And the media doesn't always help.

So how effective is what the TSA is doing? Perhaps better than pre-9/11. But random searches only go so far. I'd personally rather see a more active role in the TSA being able to make judgement calls on who to screen(of course with reasonable guidelines). And that's not to limit it to Middle Easterners, but I would think that due to the fact that most of Al Qaida is made up of Middle Easterners, it would make sense that more Middle Easterners would be screened. What we have in place seems to only offer more of a false sense of security....at least to a large extent.

My name is Nismo_Freak and I approve this message:

Notice how I said there is a difference between US citizens and foriegn citizens. US citizens obviously have rights, people from overseas do not. If they don't like it then perhaps they should convince their countrymen to not hijack airplanes and fly them into giant buildings, blow up our troops, and chop off people's heads. Screw their rights, this is our country and yes Americans are worth more to me than them, it's called being nationalistic. Perhaps if Americans had a little more true pride in themselves and their country we would be better off.

You're trying to nit pick my arguement when you need to understand it to begin with.

Racial profiling might be desciminatory but it's a fact of life. It's not built on ignorant hatred, it's built on FACT. That is the difference and that is why I don't attack it as being some racial struggle for the minorities as the media has it. You don't think white people don't have to put up with racial profiling or stereotyping?

Please people, stop trying to make some liberal utopia and open your eyes to REALITY!

Old or not, she broke the law.

I'm sure they will be soft on her but what happens if the gun was accidently discharged on the plane when she was getting a piece of gum at 10,000+ feet?

Whats even worse is an elderly woman carries around a .45 to feel safe!

Geeze, I cant believe nobody approached those guys. In that situation I'd rather die by my own doing (approaching them to see what the **** is going on) than be randomly shot or taken hostage. It worked out allright it seems, but thats just frieking terrifying, I dont think I could have held myself back...

Agree with you Nathan. Maybe I'm young and bold, but I'd likely ask "Hey, what the heck are you all doing back there?"

We dont have to harass every brown guy on a plane. Or else I'd have to stop flying. :) But when activity as obviously suspicious as that takes place, someone needs to stand up and ask "WTF?"

And the web site? Well I got the link from someone I was chatting with at http://www.ircpolitics.org. :P
