My J30 sat for a while, almost about a year. After firing her up, and the car running perfect, no problems what so ever, I realized one problem.

When the headlights are on, the CD player and the heat control digital displays sometimes flicker between day mode (brighter) and night mode (dimmer).

The problem never seems to occur when the headlights are off, and the displays are in the brighter mode for the daytime, only when in the dimmer night time mode with headlights on.

Anyone have a similiar problem, or have any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

Thanks very much!

I have another problem but very similar. My radio display turnes off completely, but sometimes when it's cold outside it turnes on.

Have you guys checked the connections and the wires. Years ago, I had an Alfa that sat in storage for a year. some mice, rats, pest had gnawed on one of my headlight wires. I had headlights that shone randomly at different intensities amongst other oddball electrical problems (i.e, flickering gauge backlighting-also gnawed).

That would explain the CD display flickering, but not why both the CD display, and the heat controls flicker at the exact ame time together?

Either way, I'm going to pull the radio and heat control out and see how the wiring looks.

Anyone have a link on how to remove the radio and heat control, or some directions?

Thanks!

you might want to check into the dimmer switch for the dash lights. The switch is a known problem for these cars. You can repair it yourself if you remove it and re-solder the connections in it. There isn't too many connections so don't be scared to dig in.

I was taking the stereo out and the wiring was OK.

J30Guy, it's pretty much straightforward. First you need to take out the shift stick cover. Use some flat screwdriver to pull it out. It has 4 latches and comes out pretty easy. Then you will have to unscrew the stereo/climate control panel. There are two screws on the bottom. Then carefully take the panel out, be very careful with the top latches, they are pretty tough do not break the panel. Then you can unscrew the stereo/climate control block and pull it out.
