Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix a flat screen that has a scratch right through the center of it. Its only about three inches long but its starting to annoy the crap out of me.

can you replace the plastic cover? :xfingers

If it is a flat screen projection TV, you can replace it.

If you rub your hand over the screen, is it smooth or does it have tiny ridges?

If it is smooth, you have a cover...that can be replaced, but you have to get the piece from the Mfr.

Not sure about plasma though.

Cheap... a relative term. :) They retail for $350-$550 in that size (high resolution LCD TFT capable of at least 1024x768 at 16-bit color). I dont think the warranty will cover it either. :(

If the price on the monitor is reasonable and the damage isnt too bad, I might make you an offer. Got pics?

Try jeweler's Rogue, or 5micron diamond grit - these are relatively inexpensive. Used by amateur telescope buffs.

This will buff out tiny scratches in glass, but not help with deep gouges.

The plastic is really sensitive to scratching tho...might blur the image.

Jewelers Rogue and 5um diamond grit is really fine stuff. The "blurring" might end up being smoother than the rest of glass or plastic! :)

I fix TV's for a living and sorry but your SOL. I've seen 42 LCD's that go into aircrafts for someones personal jet and come out cracked to hell because someone hit it accidently. I just got trained on the new Sony plasma's and they sell a 62 inch for $20,000.Blah...sickening to think someone would spend that much on a TV.

Ouch... what the heck do people watch on those to justify $20k?!?!?!? All I have is Office Space and Family Guy.

Must be one of those "impress your friends" purchases.

Its not cracked, the plastic is scratched. The diamond grit thing *might* be able to get it out. Whats the harm in trying if hes just gonna get a new screen anyways.

Im gonna try that diamond grit. Im sure it will say on the bottle whether or not its good for plastic.

But its comin outta that kids future allowance.
