I don't want to sound stupid, and I think I'm going to, but I'm curious. I was doing research on my F50 Q45, and I found out nismo used the same engine in my car for the GT-R Super GT, but it had a flat plane crankshaft instead of a typical cross plane. Because of this, is it possible for my car to run with a flat plane crankshaft?

Technically speaking....yes and it would rev to the moon and back. Realistically speaking....no. The cross plane crank was engineered to reduce vibrations, the did this obviously by sectioning the crank and by adding more weight. By running a flat plane crank in a daily driver, you'd have an enormous amount of vibration that would be annoying to drive. Not to mention the fact that you'd essentially have to have a crank custom made for your application, and then since the firing order would change...you would also need to have custom cams made. At this point you'd really have to ask yourself "is the juice worth the squeeze"? If the answer is yes and you have more money that you know what to do with, then you can look at Bryant Racing and even Scat to get a new crank made for you. For cams, you could talk to D.Elgin cams or Staub custom cams to suit your needs. Keep in mind that you're probably going to need to send them each the factory component that you're wanting modified for their reference. Hope this answered your question and feel free to fire back if you have more! Welcome to NICO!

Just for giggles (and for anyone that happens to search this), I contacted Bryant Racing to get a quote on a crank manufactured. They said since they haven't made a crank for this motor before, it will be $8000 for tooling/engineering and $5000 for the crank itself with a 25 week turnaround time. In the even they're able to sell 10 cranks as a group buy, they'll waive the $8000 fee. 50% deposit required upon acceptance of quote. This was just for the crankshaft, you'd still need to take care of the camshaft situation.

In summary, a flat plane crank for a VH45DE will cost an individual $13,000 for just the crank through this company.
