my car needs a paintjob real bad and i was considering getting it painted at macco but ive been considering painting it myself for a couple of reasons. my uncles have all the quipment so it should turn out ok .1 its cheaper. 2 its gonna get scratch so i dont need a perfect job and 3. i love working on my car. the cars black right now and my dad said i should paint it black again because white would be too hard to cover the black. (is this true or is it not that hard?) im thinking either gloss black or like blitz black. does anyone know where i can get blitz black paint? also do you not put a clear coat on it im guessing? and last is flat black easier to paint and show less imperfections? wow sorry for all the questions. let me know what you think.

If you're talking urethane paint, white doesnt take that long to cover, usually 3 to 5 coats. If you want flat black and you want it last, as in not fade, make sure to do a basecoat/clearcoat setup. You can use any black base coat then use a flat or semi-gloss clear. The one I use is buy PPG, it's called flexed and flat, it's made for bumpers but works on any other part of the car and it a little more flexible than standard clear.

I'm rattle canning mine with satin black. I'd say paint it yourself. It takes a lot of work and a little time but it's worth it. I'd say get a hold of some of that flat clearcoat, it would make everything so much better. When you don't have it clearcoated it is really fragile. It will get seriously scratched up.

its not hard to cover the black with white. use a sealer first like a light gray then shoot white. or if you don't want to use a sealer then reduce the white less so its less transparent/thin

If you want to paint it yourself and have a gun & air compressor then go to AutoZone and hit up the paint section, there youll find a Duplicolor paint system or some crap that comes in cans, get the primer/paint/clear and put on a few coats of each!

This kid did it and from the pics it looks good, you might not want to do black because it shows all the imperfectionshttp://forums.nicoclub.com/zer...age=1

I recently painted my own car in my garage. The body work was really the hardest part. All the stripping, sanding, priming, sanding, painting, clear-coating, and reassembly (in that order) isn't hard...just tedious.

DO NOT USE MAACO, the prev owner of my car had them do body work to it. Its now starting to peel off like a bad sunburn. For a temp fix I got some Rustoleum primer and satin black enamel and shot it on my hood with a HLVP gun to keep it protected. It actually turned out nice I dont know how long it will last tho. Sorry I have no pics of it
