I've searched... But haven't quite found what I'm looking for...

I like flat black paint... I like how it looks... And I like the feeling of the paint...

But, I've read in places that certain flat black paints jobs or whatever cause surface rust...

Are rattle can paint jobs "okay" functionally?

I would like to do one with my future project... Not temporarily either... Permanent...

What are your thoughts?

You can get a professional flat black paint job. Spray cans typically look tacky cause proper preparations aren't taken before hand. As for the rust, probably because some people think if they spray over rust without removing it that they are solving the problem when they are really just covering it up.

Rattle cans do just fine weather wise if you cover everyything up. You're probably mixing up rattle can and primer. At the very least there should be one coat of primer and one or two coats of paint. Most rattle can jobs look crappy but there are a few (like sil8drftr) who take their time and it actually comes out decent. Most look terrible because people don't take time to do any prepwork and don't sand in between coats or even sand at all. Add to that bad spray technique and you've got yourself a wavy, un-even, dull, ugly piece of sh*t.

IMO rattle can jobs should be for the most part, temporary until you can get a real paint job. Sure there are some that look nice but nothing can take the place of a nice professional paint-job.

And btw, professional flat/satin paint-jobs and diy jobs are NOT THE SAME. They don't look the same unless the guy doing it himself is a pro or just really good at it.

Well, I have two older friends that have been in the body business for a long, long time.

And one of the guys' sons is one of my good friends, he's pretty decent at it. I also have another friend who had worked in a body shop for about a year or so (sanding, filling, pounding, etc.)

All of the guys I mentioned will help me any way necessary. Not just monetarily, I would much like to do it myself.

I have a lot of time on my hands so, the "taking the time" issue isn't a big deal.

Anyone have any pics of a decent flat black paint job?

In the Kouki check in page, I saw a beautiful flat black paint job, the car looked soooo bad ***...
