Also at the shop today they found that the cause of my flat acceleration is probably a split plenum vaccum hose. He has ordered a new hose and will fit it next week. I am probably paying over the ods for this as it is not coming from Joe in Scottsdale. He is concerned about the effect on the cats as there will be too much fuel being dumped into the system with this hose leaking

How is the idle... If your idle is smooth and steady, i kinda doubt it.. I thought I had a vacuum leak, and I really didnt... IMHO a vacuum leak big enough to cause that much acceleration loss would result in other more obvious things, like bad idle and other stuff..... If your running that rich, your exhaust tail pipes and the area around the pipes on the bumper might have the same stuff on it...

idle is ok at about 600rpm. Car is a bit limpy when cold but stabilizes when warm. Apart from flat acceleration from rest the engine just generally doesn't feel as smooth as a V8 should. Apparently he saw the split hose and decided against using a cheap piece of hose to repair it as it is a 90 degree elbow shape and he wanted to fit the correct OEM part

I don't like that statement. Tell your mechanic to give me a call and I'll get him to use the "cheap" stuff.

BTW, just because something doesn't cost much, doesn't mean that it is "cheap". I know you guys are going to tell me not to say anything until I get my plenum job done, but I have used supposedly "cheap" hoses on another car. They work just fine for 1/8 the price.

He's worried about too much fuel being burned causing damage to the cats? If anything it'll be running lean and idling high. Hunting can occur if there's a programmed fuel cut at a given RPM when the TB is closed. How old is the O2 sensor?

Don't know anything about the age of the 02 sensor. Maybe this is linked to my emission failure
