I'm buying a 97 I30 that has the airbag light flashing. The salesman said it was a sensor that costs $500 parts/labor. We are arguing over the price of the car because of this. Does anyone know what sensor this would be and how much it costs/how hard to install? It seems like a pretty good deal. The car has 62,000 miles, dark green with tan leather, moonroof, etc for $9700. Of course their line is that the car needing that sensor was reflected in the price. :rolleyes

Thanks

I'm going to move this thread to the Infiniti Online Mechanic for a better response. Someone there should be able to tell you a little more about these sensors.

Ask them if selling a vehicle with a potentially malfunctioning safety system is of no concern, then surely will they give a written statement guaranteeing and warranteeing its operation?

maxnix,

I know, what a crock. Of course he said the maintenance manager said it's not a problem. Oh, so manufactures just put those lights there for no reason:confused: And if the price of the car reflected the problem why wasn't that brought up when I asked about it while driving the car? Man, I hate buying cars. I really like this car, it's really sweet and probably worth the price, but now it's principle. I offered them X amount out the door, not X amount with a known problem. Oh well, it's not like there are not 5000 cars for sale in Atlanta.

If your air bag light is flashing your air bag is not armed. take it to the dealer and have them reset it. these systems are covered by safety warranty. valleybouy

Last Friday my wife was motoring around the states of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas in my I30, same thing occured, flashing air bag light. Well today, got the car into the dealer and the RIGHT SIDE air bag harnes has been damaged (something under the seat damaged the wires). Needless to say, I am dissappointed, but the repair is at hand...Meanwhile, being the Infiniti customer I am, I am in possesion of THE FIRST 2004 G35X in Omaha- and it is a dealer service loaner. Diamond Graphite with light sage interior and premium package. WHAT A BLAST....Meanwhile, I get to keep the G35X overnight, while the parts arrive by FeDEx from God only knows where, so I can be relieved of about $160 to repair...As long as the "airbag" warning lamp is flashing, the bags (all of them) are safe. They will NEVER deploy...it is a failsaif to prevent them form going of when they don't need to because of a "fault" in the system.

It might be in test mode. Turn the key on, push the door sensor button ten times or so and then start it. Then charge them $500 since you fixed it.

Here is the simple solution, tell the salesman that you are going to take the I30 to a Nissan/Infiniti dealer. Have the dealer inspect the car and they will tell you how severe and how much $$$ its going to cost to repair the airbag light issue. It will get rid of any worry on your side and give you an accurate cost to fix the problem. Go back to the used car dealer and dock that cost out of the final cost of the vehicle.

And that paid inspection will tell you if you are buying a total loss rebuilt from 2-3 cars...........more common than you would think.

Not counting the air bag repair cost the car is worth $7400 private retail and dealers would try to sell it for $8900.

Don't over pay.

Or your airbag deployed for whatever reason and the used car dealer or whomever they got the car from put in a "fake replacement" (aka and airbag that won't deploy and/or exists-I've seen this before!) trigerring your airbag light to stay on. Better spend the extra cash and get the dealer inspection done. It's worth it.
