Hi,I've installed this week-end a harness for my trailer light. I bought a trailer light converter and installed it correctly...everything works well (flasher, light, stop light).

But this aftertoon I took the road with my trailer and I get problems with my flasher. Some time, my flasher don't work...on my Rogue and on the trailer at the same time, the flasher light stop work on my dash. I try again just two seconds after and it work. It's a random problem and it occurs about 65% of time.Everything else still works great, but when I use my flasher I need to try 2-3 times before it works.

Somebody have an idea of this problem? Is it a bad ground? A bad trailer light converter?

thanks in advance

you may need a bigger flasher relay in the fuse console, a relay capable of allowing more electricity to pass through the system. All the lights may be too much of a load on the factory relay and it is kicking out after a periond of time.

Did you try the trailer on another car?

That is clearly electrical and since it is random, this sounds like a wiring problem.

When you removed the trailer, did your flashers work back correctly?

Check all your wires, from the car and from the trailer.

I had one of my friend letting me use his trailer once, and its wires were damaged. I ended up burning the flasher fuse when wires touched each others.

Hi guys,thanks for your answers.

I didn't try my trailer on an other car since about 6 months, but last time I used it on my Sentra 05, it was good. I'm gonna try it again on my car to isolate the problem.

I like the idea of a bigger flasher relay, that's make sense cause while the 5-10 first minutes of driving everything works fine (so maybe it's because the relay is cold??!) and after many minutes the problem begin.Where is that relay and what kind of relay I should use?

This really sounds like a wiring issue. Trailer wiring routinely gets damaged, bad grounds, etc.

I would try hooking up to another trailer OR try your trailer on another car to see if the problem persists.

Are you are using a 'powered' trailer light converter? It sound to me like you aren't. Powered means it has a separate 12V power connection from the battery:

If you are using an un-powered converter (no external power connection) or just a simple harness, you are asking for trouble. The Rogue's lighting system was never designed to handle the extra power needed to run trailer lights. If you use a proper powered lighting converter, you should never have problems with the turn signals in your Rogue... any problems would only be with the trailer.

As for upgrading the flasher relay. This is not possible. The turn signals are integrated into the Body Control Module... basically a computer that runs the basic controls. ie turn signals, headlights, intelligent key, alarm system, etc. It's a sealed unit, there is no relay to replace/upgrade.

Go any buy a proper trailer light converter if you do not already have one.

You're right, I didn't used a trailer light converter that get 12V power. I asked two auto parts shop here and both said to me that I don't need power in my converter. In my Sentra 05 I don't use a converter with power??!

I had read the post on the other thread...but because the guy at the auto parts told me that I don't need to get power, I bought the converter he had.

So, you think that all my problem come from that?Do you have a link that I can buy online that converter?thanks!

If you replace lights on your trailer with led you will decrease the load and I don't think you would have to buy a new relay. I think walmart sells trailer led sets.

I bought about 3 years ago similar trailer kit from walmart for my jetski trailer but I didn't experience that problem. At that time I used it on my mom's mazda protege and the wiring was installed by U-haul. The trailer kit comes with new wiring that fits perfectly to original socket. All you have to do is replace lights and the harness you can keep original.

You think that with Led light on my trailer I'll be able to keep my current trailer light converter witch has no 12V power input?

This is not surprising. The Rogue likely has different electrical systems compared to the '05 Sentra. I have always used powered trailer light converters. IMHO this is the 'right' way to do it. If something goes wrong, you will only lose your trailer lights, not the entire vehicle.

I used and off the shelf converter from Draw-Tite. You can see it in the threads I linked to above. It took a bit to wire it up, but it works well. The Professional Wiring Products version is completely plug and play.... no wiring to splice.

Leo2005,

I always liked LED lights for trailers. It seems trailer lights are always getting wet, corroding burning out, etc. LED's solve may of those issues.

I had a ticket one day as soon as I took out jetski from the water cop pulled me over and one of the bulbs didn't work. Later on I replaced it with led set. It was soo easy to replace and I don't remember any problems giving me after that.

Sorry for bringing back an old topic, but do you have a pic of your LED lights on your jetski trailer?

I never made a picture of that but I sold the jetski in '09 so there's no way I can make a picture now.
