Got my car back after the engine swap...everything seems good so far but when I went into the service menu and did the "Diagnostics". All components were green except for the "Control Unit" in the middle.

Looking at the detail shows "Flash rom error in control unit 50" Going to take it back to dealer but wanted to know if anyone here had any idea what this is?

SWAG: Some failure in the ECM perhaps ... I did not see anything obvious in the Service Manual (cursory look though).

What were you looking in when you found that? It sounds like you are looking deep in the diagnostic menu through the display screen. It almost sounds like that means it occurred 50 key cycles ago. The main purpose of that menu is to help us with system communication issues. Why did you have to replace the engine at only 40k? I think that code can be generated after a reprogram and 50 is the max number so it may have been in there for a very long time.

As soon as you go into the service menu (Hold down Settings and turn volume up...while Radio Off), the first option is Diagnostics. The output of that is below as well as the error history.

There is very little information on these codes and error messages in the ESM. I have seen these codes are cars with <10 miles. My best guess is that they are momentary lapses in communication inside various control units. If picture 2 is the what it shows when you select display control unit, it shows that occasionally there are some lapses in communication. If you look a little harder in there you will be able to find your exact latitude and longitude that the failure happened in, you can also monitor active can circuits which is slightly more relevant than those codes. If you are not having any issues with your electronics I would not worry about it and do not be surprised if the dealer does not find an issue. The numbers that follow the codes are key cycles, it makes it easier for us to match a problem with a related complaint. What prompted the internal inspection?

As the engine was just swapped (see other thread re: Hole in Oil pan) I figured I would check the diagnostics menu to see if everything was good. Everyting SEEMS to be working fine but I'd rather discover any issues sooner than later. I think the second image is unrelated as the latitude and longitude it occured in is very old but the first image is definitely a current issue as the diag. runs every time I invoke it.

I understand completely what you are saying, I don't blame you for checking it. There is a reason the hide that. I would say to get it looked and and be vigilant of any issues that may occur while making use of your electronic devices if there is an issue this will aid in the diagnostic procedure, if there actually is a communication issue. Just of our curiousity do any of the other input/output devices have codes. Also if you are in there what are the self test results?
