my friends and i went to our racing spot last night and we did some racing. i beat an old buick with a 400ci small block, and a 1994 grand am v6 with intake and exhaust. when i raced the buick they said a small flame shot out of my exhaust when i was shifting to 2nd gear, and when i was backing into my parking spot, i reved it and barked my tires and it shot out a flame then too. my question is , is this bad? and why does it do that? my car has been backfiring some could it be connected with that? anyway, i know someone will have a comment about racing, so please dont flame or anything like that. there were 4 of us in a relatively well lit, secluded parking lot. no pedestrians, no other traffic. thanks

Don't street race!

The flames are likely due to fuel build up in the exhaust as your car might be running a bit rich. probably due to a bad or poorly grounded Mass airflow sensor.

where do i check the ground for the MAF? i know it has a few wires leaving it but they all go to the harness above the intake i think?would new plugs or wires help the fuel burning issue?
