btw if you cant log in that says asking 6500....

which means 10 is way too much even for a semi built motor. sry

and wtf do you mean semi built? this motor will take just as much p ower if nto more than JR's SR dude... this isnt a "powdered" internal motor like the sr, forged crank forged rods stock... pistons are all you need for big power

why you hatin on the sr so bad? Ive seen plenty of 800+ hp sr's these days. But i have to say i havent seen too many ca's.

a STOCK SR has Powdered Rods and Hyperutectic pistons, altho the rods are strong, they are VERY hard and brittle, forged metal flexes a little, powdered will just break.... ive had an SR i know the issues, and one of them is revving. Stock valvetrain can not rev past 7500SAFELY no matter what anyone says. Youll start floating valves. The CA18DET V2 engine such as what i have, came with factory solid lifters and the ability to safely rev past 9000rpm, the factory redline on the V2 is 8350 and with a compression ratio of 8.8:1 factory, it will get you into boost faster than an SR... that extra 189cc you SR guys have over the SR is a mere waste of space. The reason you do not see CA's over here is because parts are so difficult to get because of its age. But if people, such as myself, understand the motor and its capabilities (rememver its only a 4cyl version of the RB) they will take the extra time to search abroad and get the right parts. The CA has everything available from lightweight cranks all the way to aftermarket intake manifolds such as the SR, and the CA is an iron block motor and STILL 50lbs lighter than an SR fully dressed =)

Not trying to be an *******, but the SR is a beginners engine. JR's is nice, your build looks amazing, i loved my SR with a passion, but theres more to be gained with doing a CA, especially the fastest CA18 powered S13 in the US... the current record is 11.29 at 123... the record WILL BE MINE in the 10s.

so if the ca18 was soo sweet why was it replaced after only 4 years in service in the s chassis by a beginners engine that lasted for 12 years?

and btw if you're buildin a drag car y not save the ca for what its good for and use it for time attack and such, and get a real engine like a ka for drag.

BECAUSE, the CA is lighter than the KA or SR, the CA revs HIGHER than the CA or SR ever could safely, the CA is an iron block unlike the SR. The CA also has a nicer sound than the KA, and just an FYI, the CA engine, lasted more like 20 years... the started as a 1.6 and ended as a 2.0 and was produced in more countries and cars than the SR and KA combined. The CA came in ALOT more cars than you know of. And with the pure PATHETIC design of a KA, and the fact that an SR will sling rocker arms like toy soldiers. Id rather have something with an 8 port head, that flows more CFM than a 1g dsm head, NO rocker arms to break as well as something with individual coil packs, and a timing belt, which will hold up better than chain driven motor because once you SR guys start making more and more power, you will start to notice that your changing out your timing chain tensioner fairly often... i know i did, so did mark.

besides... its more fun to beat 2.0L + with less displacement.

it all comes down to knowledge and how its built eric. Trust me, ill be pulling on you like a 2 year old pulls on their fathers chest hair

i still love ya tho! haha

I have never slung a rocker arm and only changed the timing belt tensioner once and thats when the motor was first built.

i like how you talk about your old car like it was all-powerfull yet i still havent seen a time slip to back up any faster than a 13.5 claim...

The CA was produced from 1984 to 1993 internationally, thats 9 years with only 4 spent in a s chassis including the s12. Where as the SR was built from 1989 untill 2007 with the ending version of it being the sr20vet in the xtrail. Yes the CA was produced alot but i was replaced by a far superior engine that is in fact not heaver than it, and that has to due with the CA's iron block.

And when was the last time you had enough power to break an alluminium block? It takes well over 500 to do that and the highest claim ive seen for a ca was in the low 600's while there are SR's with high 800's. Yeah the head flows nice on the ca but its displacement is too low for most larger turbos to be powered and cant be bored out much more due to it allready being at its max and if you stroke it you'll lose you redline that you love so much.

Oh and you can talk about how slow and gay my car is all you want because it still doesnt phase me.

eric you need to do some real research on the CA and dont just go to wikipedia.... i can go into wikipedia and make it say JR is a douchebag if i wanted to... the CA was around for 19 years in many shapes and forms, 1.6 - 2.0 DOHC and SOHC. Yes its an old school engine. BUT any engine can make power with the right knowledge and money. All you guys just buy a motor and drop it in. Im not into that **** anymore. the SR is like weed, the gateway. Youll soon see where the power is once you float a few valves and realize that rocker arms at timing chains are outdated domestic parts. Im not REQUIRED to prove a timeslip on that car, 350whp is way more than enough to make it into the 11s... **** i should have run 11.50s with that ***** but we had 0 traction cause it was 20 ****in degrees out. but then again, thats why i still have my lisence... i keep it at the track =)

dont talk it if you cant take it brother

oh, and a couple more NOTABLE pieces of info... im at 84.5mm bore... same as an SR iirc, with 9.0:1 compression ratio plus whatever shaving my head .030 gained me... and oh yeah! ive only got 2500 in my motor including the cost of the motor... thats 300 more than a STOCK sr =) so where does that put you? with a STOCK SR... while im on a CA that could easily handle 600+whp

the reason you dont see high HP ca's, is probably because your not in new zeland or japan... over there, there are CA cars running in the 8s! and that takes damn near 1000hp to run that fast... so uhh... CA>SR

i wouldn't say any engine is better than another. well maybe a couple exceptions. any motor with the right parts and good tuning will make good power. i mean look at all these little ecotec motors that are running in the high 7's. there is no need to brag about your motors, especially when your not up and running yet. the only way find out is by racing. oh and by the way phil, what happend to "no replacement for displacement"? not to get you more worked up but what made you go from a 5.0 to a 1.8?

there is no replacement for displacement. at all.

But, i am proving a point. i never said im better than anyone, and never said the CA is the best thing out there.

The reason im doing the CA is to piss off some of the local V8 guys. whats more fun than beating american muscle with a 4banger... i think we can ALL agree on that

but if you wanna go fast for cheap. Get an LS1 Car. Thats what im doing once this one is done.
