I did both tensioners, oil change, and front main seal this weekend! That's funny. Hope you have an engine hoist. My engine sounds so quiet now. This coming weekend is valve seals and a flush. I just wanna make sure I get eveything outta the engine that may have gotten mixed w/ the oil when I took the front cover and pan off. I was gonna go w/ the E pistons I have laying around but I didn't have enough time. I was getting the stuff I needed at Advanced and ran into some of the people on this forum. I'm still new here so I can't remember names. Sorry guys! Let me know who u are on here so I can look dumb.MaDD_Drizzle wrote:So I decided to finally put on the timing chain kit i had bought months ago and started replacing a few parts as u can tell below some of the wear of the old upper tensioner compared to the new one next to it.
this is the top half when istarted taking it all apart
By removing the upper tension guide u eliminate the rattling can sound because its the upper tension guide that keeps hitting the upper timing chain as its spinning smacking at the tension guide.
the timing chain is not completely stretched out and tends to jump in the middle hitting the upper tension guide...U can remove that guide and it will not hurt the engine in any way...even nissan mentioned that it can be eliminated without any side effects.
Right now im working on replacing the lower timing chain as well along with the lower tensioner, tension guides etc. but in order to take out the lower timing sprocket i need to literally move the throttle body t get to some screws that are holding it..remove the oil pan completely!..and just about half the car just to get to that frikkin lower timing chain and its become more of a headache then anything else.
needless to say my car is out of commision for the time being
