I know this isn't the right forum, but I figured since the CA and FJ are both somewhat obscure engines, more people in here might know about it.

Anyway, a friend of mine is probably going to be picking up a 200sx with the CA20E engine in it :P. I'm looking at options to get a bit more power into this car. I know the platform isn't the best out of the S12's to start with, but there aren't many around here to choose from. Besides, I figure I can get some suspension parts out of a junkyard for it and get some IRS in the back. At any rate, though, power is going to be the first necessity because 100hp just isn't roadworthy IMO. So, I was really thinking that the FJ might be a good option for this car. I know that some in japan were available with it, so swapping shouldn't be tooo bad. I just don't know where to get it. Do the normal importers have a supply of FJ engines or what?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is a newbie post. I just don't know much about the FJ.

I've never heard of the fj in the U.S...but TheMadSci in japan has (had?) an fj20 in his silvia (I think):D

talk to him...but finding one and finding parts in the US doesn't seam feasible to me...

If you're not set on the FJ, why not just swap a CA18DET, since the car is designed for the CA, I think it might be easier than a FJ.

I know where an Fj is at, but it's been there for a long time and doesn't have a harness or ecu. Looks big and bulky as well even more square looking htan the CA18DET. It uses a timing chain and I hate those things. Parts for it will probably be very hard to find, so you may want to steer clear of this one unless you have the hook-up on parts.

Hmm, maybe it would be more trouble than it's worth. Would be a hell of a swap tho :). I guess i'll have to keep thinking about it. Does anyone know of a good place to get info on the CA20E? From what i've heard, it's not a great engine, but hey, not everyone on the net is all that brilliant right? hehehe

the fj originally came in the s12 chassis along with the 80s skyline. i think the bearings and stuff are the same as the L series motor. search for fj20, fj20det, and fj20et. there has been several threads on this motor.

Go to Club S12 They have a dedicated CA20E forum, and one person there have built a CA20E+T.

Believe it or not, I actually did search and didn't find anything. I'm a mod on zilvia.net, so I know how annoying it is when you get the same question asked over and over again, hehe. Thanks for the link. I knew there was a site dedicated to the S12, but i've been having a heck of a time finding it.

The FJ is a TANK. basically, imagine if you took an old L20B 4 pot, made the bottom end even STRONGER and stuck 16 valves on it, then just trubocharged it for the fun of it. pretty much the best 4 cylinder nisssan ever made. rumor has it, its roots are in F1 racing that nissan decided not to run in.

BOOST BOY!!! wheres an FJ??? How much do they want for it??? I dont care if its lokced up solid. I bet I could make it run on my KA wiring harness and crap I have after the swap! then standalone... I want I want I want!! talk about the ultimate old skool 510 build up. god, i loved my 510, even without floorboards! of course I do know where an old 1200 coupe is..... evil overcoming....... cant .... reamin .... in ..... control!!

the FJ is a monster. It's big and heavy and the closest thing to a "big block" four banger I can think of. Mine was in an S12 and it would plant you in the seat. I assume you are stateside, with this in mind I would advise against going FJ even if you can find one because you will not be able to get parts easily. Do a CA18DET and get the same power albeit with less ball-yanking torque and have a motor you can get parts for and more easily through a smog check.

Just like the "themadscientist" says, I would just build a CA, but if you want to defy the rules of engagement, I can go verify that it's still there. I'm almost sure that it will be very, very cheap for this thing. Mad was right about one thing, it is a "Tank" makes a KA look like a GA16DE.

hey, boost!

I am very much interested in the FJ20ET! can you let me know how much they want for it?

dammit, i start one project and another opportunity comes up. I'll never get anything done at this rate!

McAdam

p.s. still need pistons? or are you doing the CA20 thing?? I have had a few biotes on the pistons, but I dont think anyone is seriuous, and its not worth it if we only have you and I, since the discount comes into affect at 3 orders or more. blah.

hey, macadam

are boostboy and you still going to buy the 84 mm pistons.I am also interested in buying the pistons. There is only one problem. Since I live in holland the shipping would be kinda expensive. My parents live in canada maybe they could ship the pistons to my parents.

anyway contact me if you are still going to buy te pistons.

p.s. i can get most parts for the fj20et engine since it was also availeble in europe.
