ive been pondering what motor swap to go with, if i go with one at all. the ka24det, sr20det, and ca18det have all been covered pretty well along with a little info on RB swaps. i was just curious about this FJ20 motor. i hear alot of good things about it. as far as power potentail goes, this motor is for me, but what i need to know is, how difficult will this swap be? and also, why is nobody doing this swap in the states? i have already found motor sets at a really good price, and i know most of these older motors will need to be rebuilt. so, anyone who might know, Dauntless maybe, please give me as much info on this as you can. thanks

Like you said, it would need to be rebuilt, where would you get all the gaskets, ect that you need?

When you upgrade it what parts will be available? How much stuff has been discontinued?

For me, that motor is just to old and too complicated to work on. You'll be waiting weeks for small parts to come in from importers and whatnot.

probably because the motor is;1. twenty years old2. only came in an RS Skyline or a limited number of Silvia Gazelles3. it never came to america4. it's hard to find here in japan5. damned near every part is out of production6. go into your local nissan parts place and ask for FJ20 parts7. most people in the states have SR-itis or RB-osis

It is a wicked motor, stump-pulling torque and high boost capable. A Pulsar GTI-R Power FC can be rigged to run it. An RB20 transmission bolts to it and sits on the crossmember perfect. 400-600hp is within reach with modern turbos and engine management. If you want old-school nissan get an L-28. At least you can get parts for that!

Yeah, its kinda sad, the FJ20 is a bad mutha, pretty much a bullet proof motor.

yeah everything but the timing set. The oil-pressurized chain tensioners give up and the chains goes slack. replace the upper one with a adjustable solid tensioner and the bottom chain with a stud mounted countergear and that is no longer a worry. They aren't revvers though, pistons are big ol 89mm soupbones and they don't like jumping jack RPMs like in a drift situation. Great drag motor. Every now and then an FJ20 will come out of the woodwork, kill a couple of SRs and RB and fade back into the darkness like a ghost samaurai. Newbs are always stunned, old farts like me love that ****.
