Fixing stuck HVAC button in nav unit - 2002 QX4

Since I bought the car, the HVAC has been stuck in the exhaust mode. Occasionally, I need to switch to re-circulation.
However, the button in the HVAC + Nav unit in my '02 QX4 is solidly stuck in place. Is there any way to "gently" fix this?
I have read too many threads of those tiny buttons falling off and looks like there's no good way to attach them or glue them back either.
