fixing gauge cluster....

Looking at a used Nissan with non-working speedo or tach in the gauge cluster. I have racked my brain looking for solutions, but since I never had this problem, I have no clue what to do. It is a nice car, so I wanna fix it... prefer to do it myself... should I go to the salvage yard for a new guge cluster or is it something simple like loose connections...?
