Hi guys,

I would like to get some insights and help on how to restore deep scratches (ones that the paint chipped off) for my 2012 Rogue. My goal is to try conceal or fix as much scratch damages that have been accumulated over the years as best as possible. It doesn't have to be perfect.

Currently, I did some research and plan to do the following. Any criticism, questions, or better ideas will be appreciated.

Car: 2012 Nissan Rogue S
Color: Brilliant Silver Metallic
Issues: Deep Scratches and Light Scratches

Plan:
1. Buy Dupli-Color BNS0601 Silver Metallic Nissan Exact-Match Automotive Paint - 8 oz. Aerosol
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00407YQ36?_en ... automotive

2. Buy Dupli-Color BCL0125 Clear Exact-Match Automotive Top Coat - 8 oz. Aerosol
http://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-BCL01 ... roduct_top

Repaint Damaged/Deep Scratches Surface
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHzoVJ7hV6k
1. Wash Car
2. Use Rubbing Alcohol to clear wax, tar, or grease on surface
3. Use sandpaper and scouring pad to remove gloss
4. Set Up Surrounding Area with Painting Tape and Newspapers
5. Apply Paint (2-3 Coats)
6. Dry 30 mins
7. Apply Top Coat
8. Dry 30 mins

For Minor Scratches and Imperfection:
1. Buy Meguiar's G17216 Ultimate Compound - 15.2 oz.
http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G17216-U ... ver&dpPl=1
2. Apply on Buff Pad or Polisher
3. Elbow Grease

Total Cost (Estimate): $26.09

I have had great results with Quixx Scratch Remover on my wife's 05 Pathfinder. Here is the link to it -> http://www.quixx-usa.com/ and you can buy this at Walmart or on Amazon. It works awesome on light scratches (ie deep enough to remove paint) but not a gouges.

If it is real thin, run water over the scratch, if it disappears while wet, but comes back after it dries, you can simply touch up with just clear coat touch up as there is enough base paint. Then buff out any extra clear coat.

That being said, I am not a body shop or paint expert and use at your own risk.

Yeah I saw reviews about the Quixx Paint Scratch Remover. I know it can fix small scratches and all, but I wasn't sure how good it will do on deep scratches (where primer/metal is exposed). Therefore, I decided to go with a similar and cheaper product, which was the Meguiar's to fix the small scratches and repaint the deep scratches with the products above.

Meguiar's G17216 Ultimate Compound - 15.2 oz. - $9.15
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001O7 ... PDKIKX0DER

Quixx Paint Scratch Remover - 3.2 oz. - $15.63
http://www.amazon.com/Quixx-00070-US-Pa ... uctDetails

Also, I'm planning on buying all the products on Friday after getting opinions and reviews from many resources as possible.

Ok. Since you are thinking of spray painting, one place you may want to check out even if for the instructions is Automotive Touch Up -> http://www.automotivetouchup.com/. I have some deep scratches on my wife's Pathfinder and was planning on using their products and methods in the near future. They have some good tutorials as well as real live before and after pics from their customers which I was impressed with.

Can you post some pictures? I would just use the touch up paint, which you can get from the dealer for like $10. That is guaranteed to be a perfect match. If you get that read the directions on it and remove the orange piece inside it.
Since yours is Silver Metallic that will be a tough color to match because of the metallic. From the reviews someone said it looks matte.

If you have issues like in that video I would take it to a couple places and see how much it would cost for a professional to fix it.
It's never as easy as they make it look

all the 3rd party vendors are going to sell you colors that are as close of a match as THEY can get it. that means its NOT the original paint you have. go to the dealer mate. i promise you will regret any forms of 3rd party vendors. i would only recommend you use a 3rd party if you are buying gallons, to repaint the whole car - using a quality paint gun. and then again, i cant tell you the quality of their paint.

they cant guarantee it will match for 2 reasons:
  • 1. they dont sell OEM paint. they sell paint their computers matched to the best of their abilities.
    2. the paint on your car isnt new. its been sitting in the sun for a few years, and is no longer the same tone as the same paint if it were new. you would need to do a good blend job. blending means painting large body parts, and using very-very fine-mist paint guns. NOT a can that uses large droplets.

DID I MENTION: DO NOT USE SPRAY PAINT CANS!!!! THE DROPLETS THEY EMIT ARE TOO LARGE TO MATCH THE PAINT ON YOUR CAR NOW!!!!!

other info:
Follow my simple DIY pictured below, using touch up pens from the dealer (i did this on my 2010 g37s, obsidian black). these were pretty deep scratches. Ms.Imstricken called me with good & bad news. Good News: she got cute new shoes on sale. Bad News: someone damaged the car while at the mall LOL

Hey guys, here some pictures of the scratches of my car. I am assuming they're very deep scratches where the primer or maybe even the car metal is exposed.

Thats plastic. I can tell the black is the bumper color; not primer nor metal.

Get a touch up kit from your dealer and clean the area, and gently brush the color in.

Ok, I've decided to get the touch-up kit from the dealership.

Also, do you think it's worth to get the Meguiar's G17216 Ultimate Compound to clean up swirl marks and key scratches?

Thanks everyone for their insight and help! It really helps for me to make better decisions.

To prevent further damage to the top corner of your rear bumper and "hide" some of the existing ones, buy the bumper protector. :dblthumb:
