Thanks to everyone for the sympathy on my J. Well guys, now that I've got it I need to get to know my 1994 Q45. I have a couple of questions. Maybe yall can educate me.

1. On my 95 J I had this big space age metal looking key. I remember my father in law having the same with his 92 Q. Mine came with these small headed unutual keys. They look sorta like a (forgive me for even mentioning the word,) Lexus Key. What happen to the big daddy key?

2. I remember on the older Q that the seat went back and the steering weel went up when the key was removed. Mine doesn't do that. Is it broken or something?

3. Are the mirrors supposed to tilt when the car is put in reverse?

4. Can I reprogram my remote for my 95 J to work on my 94 Q?

5. There's a button on the radio that says CD. Does that mean it's ready to accept a cd changer? Anyone have an extra CD changer that will fit a 94 Q?

6. Also, the antenea is aftermarket, and doesn't work. The previous owner said he went through a car wash w/o turning off radio  and broke it off. He bought this one and after installing it found it didn't work. So, I guess I need a OEM antenea. How much will that run and where can I get one?

7. Oh, and one more thing. How do you get a photo of your car into the signature. I tried it (as you can see) and it didn't work.

1. Yes the same keys are with the 94 Q's.Previous owner muts have lost it. You can get a new one from one of our Infinti sponors, even with their discounts its not cheap.2.It should do the same. Possibly isnt broke check to see if your overide button for that feature isnt engaged. left on steering column.3.Yes But the litle control button has to be in the right postion ( right for right and L for L)4.I dont know but one would think so.5.Yes. Check our BST parts for avai;lablity or check with our sponsors.6.There are a couple of 90-96 Q's being parted out on NIOC right now. One of them will hook you up.7. Danny, I have a large all metal key and one with a normal black plastic end.

Check on the left side of the steering wheel for a small button by the steering wheel adjustment joystick. If it is depressed, your wheel and seat won't move.

The mirrors move down when you put the transmission in reverse, only when you turn the mirror adjustment knob to the right or left side. This will then make the left or right mirror move down (depending on which side the knob is set to).

Yes to the CD ready question. I have a SONY 10 CD Changer that works pretty well.

Enjoy the Q!

After setting the cancelation button so it is out, adjust all outside mirrors (must be selected with car in reverse for tilt aiming), wheel, and seat to your preferred postion and engage the memory position you will use.

Do you have an owner's manual? If not, download one for free at http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infiniti/ for a 1996 Q45 for free. Pay the $20 one day subscription fee and get the Factory Service Manual and all Technical Service Bulletins while you are there.

3. Yes, but you have to mvoe the selector once your in reverse. IE You put it in reverse, and move the thing to L in order for the drivers mirror to go down.

4. Yes. Use the same procedure to reprogram. Get in car, open trunk, lock doors, insert and remove the key at least 10 times within 10 seconds, unlock and lock drivers door, and then press the lock button on the remote. The flashers should blink twice.

5. Yes, theres one on ebay right now.

6. Get one from a parted out Q. Get the whole motor assy and then replace the mast, getting a new one from joe.

1) My Q came with one key, I quickly went to get another and ran into a few hurdles. If I went with the dealer to get the nice heavy one, it would be weeks and over $100. Then I found a real "locksmith", not a place that just cuts car keys and they made me a spare for about $10, but I dont' car for the looks

I recently got one of thesebut it's not the real deal. It's hard to tell from the pic (glare at top), but it's got a plastic piece at the top, not the heavy metal :(.

2) & 3) They covered this :D

4) You should be able to (as Wes mentioned), but a search (or call to Joe) will turn up the FCC codes to know for sure.

5) Good luck on the CD Changer, I finally gave up and put a later model in dash CD player in mine. Here's my thread about it.

6) Again Wes covered this one.

7) They fixed this for you, but check the link in my sig for a tutorial about uploading/posting pics.

And finally ENJOY the Q :D.

If I was in your situation, I'd remove the antenna entirely. What to fill the hole with is another question. With XM, all the Clear Channel crap on AM and FM is just... crap.

They do tilt, at least on my 1994 Q, they do.

Put the mirror switch to the neutral position. Place the gearshift into "R", then switch the mirror selector to left or right, and the respective mirror will tilt downward.

When the gearshift is returnded to "D", the mirror returns to it's programmed position.

Only the 1994-1996 G50 (and maybe 2002+ F50?) mirrors tilt in reverse when selected with the transmission in R. Sadly and inexplicably omitted on the FY33.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

Ok everyone, The Q and I are getting to know each other nicely. Thanks to yall. Imagine to my surprise to have a 2 1/2 hour commute to work this morning in the rain. (Gotta Love Atlanta traffic.) The funny thing is that I simply enjoyed it. I was able to spend lots of time in my new car!

It turns out that I only have the valet keys for my Q. That bites. I can't open the trunk or glove box. Isn't there someone on here from Scottsdale or Chicago who works at a dealership? Perhaps we can get a discount on the blank master keys. My local Ace Hardware said they can cut them.

Yall were right about the override button being pushed on the steering column. Now everything's getting out of the way when I enter/exit the car. I've programmed the seats and all is well on that front.

I'm still having a little confustion on the mirrors in reverse. When I turn the switch to L and pull the transmission in reverse the L mirrors tilts down and in just right. The R mirror doesn't seem to tilt much. Is there a way to calibrate the position it will tilt to? Ironically it's the R mirror that I would use backing up in the driveway.

I tried to reprogram my old remote, but can't seem to recall how. Can anyone post instructions for a dummy? I've programmed remotes for a 99 Q45 before, but lost my instructions. They were like: Step 1, open and close driver's door. Step 2:....

By the way, whex n I tell people that the Q has a V8 in and pushing almost 300HP the response I almost always get is, "REALLY?" Would yall say the same happens for you? I must tell you that I thought the rear tires were a little worn when I bought it, but I didn't realize how quickly I'd need new ones. The J30 is RWD so I'm use to that. But between the HP, the worn tires, and the wet roads today I was slipping and sliding every time I accelerated from a stop. Gotta love the Q.

By the way Jesda, I enjoyed listening to your Q on the MP3!

Only 1 mirro at a time tilts in and down, IIRC.

I think Wes has instructions for programming the remote, if not they're in Infinti Online Mechanic somewhere (if Wes or someone doesn't post, trying searching in that forum). Maybe these

Tires are one of the most "impactful" pieces in the engine to asphalt connection. I think someone once said, imagine a world class sprinter wearing sandals, he just wouldn't get it done :(.

Ok guys. Here's the list of things T3 found and recommended:

-needs 120k service $585-trans flush $120-differential service $90-both front door actuators $305-tension rods $375-upper links $395-ps rack 835-ps suction and return hoses $425-trans mount $180-valve cover gaskets $477-oil pressure switch $62-rear tires

Now, they did tell me that there's nothing unusually wrong with the car, just "normal Q problems." I tell you one thing, that tech was moving around the car so fast I couldn't keep up. Anyway, he said that he definately recommends the 120k service, trans flush, and diff service. Wow that's $800. I understand that the trans flush is something I'll have to have done by a shop and we can probably address the 120k service in a seperate thread on DIY maintenance, http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....62121. What about those other things?

Also, T3 didn't list this because they couldn't reproduce it but the fan is having some problems. It will always blow when the fan is on full blast, but on the other speeds it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

I was thinking that I could do the T rods and upper links myself. I did work like this on my 73 Ford Grand Torino when I was a kid. Is it that much more difficult? Some of the other stuff I'm a little timid on.

I guess my message can best be summed up as :help

Do the 120K serviceDo the trans flushDo the diff servcie

Tension Rods and Upper links are a 30 minute DIY job each, and will run you about $350 in parts from "Everything Infiniti"

The PS rack is something I can't voice an opinion on, since I can't see what is wrong - This is a serious piece of equipment, though.

The hoses leak on my car. I have had a coupel replaced, but there is still one that is leaking that I can't find.

Trans mount is optional, but should be considered - a DIY job.

VC Gaskets are a DIY job, IF you are mechanically inclined ($25 in parts, the rest is labor - and well worth it, I might add).

Oil Pressure switch is very improtant - yours is probably leaking. I doublt it is a hard thing to fix.

Get the fattest rear tires you can. I have 255/45/17's and I can barely get the tires to break loose. This has saved me some rubber.

Not quite as easy as a 30 year old Ford, but quite an adventure in mechanical work.

If the servcie includes a plug change, don't pay for that, if you are going to do the VC gaskets. It will take you 15 minutes more to pull and replace the plugs, after you remove everything for the VC gaskets, and that includes cleaning the coil packs!

Doing it yourself will make those long trips that much more enjoyable - at least in my opinion.

Jeff,

I used to live in Helena! Are there many Q owners in the Bham area?

Anyway, thanks for your feedback. I must admit that the Q45 engine looks more imtimidating than that old 1973 Ford Big Block I used to work on. I would rank my mechanical ability as medium. I'm very good at paying attention to how something came apart! I've always found that to be most important. When I bought this 10 year old car I thought to myself, "Self, it's time you start taking care of your own cars again." I thought I'd start simple by doing things like changing my own oil.

Thanks man,Dano

We always remind purchasers of used lux vehicles that the usually $3,000-$4,000 in deferred work comes along with the purchase price............then you can budget the $200 per month in maintenance and repairs to go forward.

Remember the fuel pump and plenum hoses and knock sensors and shocks and idler pullies and ac will need work in the next 1-3 years [or 6 months]........that could be up to another $4,000 at retail.

Dano, Yes, it seems B'ham is the Infiniti capital of Alabama.

I see between 5 and 10 Infiniti's per day.

Usually 1 or 2 90-96 Q45, but mostly J30's or G35/FX35, and a few Qx4's. One 2002-up Q45 per month, and 2 to 3 G35's a week.

I have never seen another silver Q, like mine, though.

The Q engine is a cross between an early ford, and a PC. If you are not afraid to tear into either, then have at the Q. Just be sure to document, or photograph what wire connects where, and how it is routed. The plugs are hard to unplug, and the wires are stiff. You will flex your arms and hands, to get to all the bolts and screws. It is difficult for a 6'-3" 250# guy, to reach some of the bolts, but it helps to have $10,000 worth of tools.

Just don't be scared, when it runs terrible, for a few minutes, after closing her back up. It is usually a coil pack not completely plugged in, or the MAF left unplugged, or a vacume hose forgotten in the reassembly.

Good to hear from you! I was hoping you'd check in here. The tech at T3 said the plenum hoses looked good. We discussed how those can need work sometimes, he said I was lucky that I didn't.

We checked the shocks and they were good. No leaks and still good and responsive.

The previous owner just had the idler pullies replaced along with some belts.

Now the fuel pump, knock sensors and ac is another story. As far as the AC goes, it blows cold. As I mentioed in a previous post, I think the fan controller maybe going out or something.

Have you seen the thread about DIY Maintenance on a Q45?

As 911/Q45 has replied in your thread, it is mostly due to Q45tech's previous posts (and member's DIY posts) that the DIY scheduled maintenance regimen exists at NICO. Reading all of Q45tech's posts is highly recommended regardless of the vehicle you drive.

I would be leary of doing the transmission mount without a lift, a transmission jack, and at least one strong friend for backup.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

Hey everyone! I called the dealership yesterday and asked the service guy if he could pull up the history on my Q. I was then going to ask him to print it and I could drop by and pick it up, under the pretense of scheduling an appt for something. He said that my Q didn't come up in the records. He said that if it hasn't been to a dealer in a while it's purged from the system. Is that true?

This is my 4th Infiniti and I've never had that problem before. This leads me back to my key issue. If all I have are the valet keys, how can I have a master key cut, especially if they can't locate the records on my car?

I've always thought that Infiniti's ability to keep service records on all thier cars was very cool and quite a service.

They can order (the only way I think) the "original style/big heavy" cut key by using the VIN, I think it's about $110, and a couple weeks.

There is a national database that Infiniti North Am is supposed to have access to after the dealerships purge, but i have never heard of anyone getting info from there yet. (Members chime in?)

Either way they can still cut your key from the VIN.

Some older records are purged from the maint. system.....but they are archived somewhere else. Get on the Infiniti corp. website and look around for the the customer service number...give them a call..... they can unarchive the info and mail or fax it to you or forward it to a local dealer.
