I did a search to figure out how this can be fixed with no good results.

Basically what happened was the back covers (with the pocket) of both my fronts seats fell off... the drivers... someone probably broke and the passengers just fell off while the car sat there for 2 weeks unmoved.

Anyways I drilled holes in the broken brackets on top and zip-tied them to the metal thing on the back of the seat... works perfect! and a lot tighter too.

I should have taken pictures but it didn't hit me then.

Also there was a sloshing sound like someone was doing the nasty behind dashboard of my 94... I opened it up to find out the HVAC motor (connected to the mix door thing) was causing it... I replaced it from a 92 model and suprisingly it used the same exact part and wire harness.

I had similar problems on my gray seats and could never get the 2 screws on the bottom of the panel on either seat to go in tightly. A couple of times when I thought I had them in properly in a couple of weeks I'd find the screws laying on the carpet.

Is that what that is? Ihear this sound when I first start the engine and the HVAC is on. But if I turn it on after the engine has been started, I don't get the sound. I'll have to open it up and take a look.

You probably don't have a bad motor.... Whenever that motor adjusts for the temperature it makes an audible sound... if you can't hear it while the car is on I'm pretty sure your all good.... mine used to make noises even while driving the car. Only at freeway speeds it was unoticable.

Mine would make the sound even if the heater/AC wasn't running. At first I thought it was the mix door effect but when i started playing with the hvac while the dashboard was off i noticed the original motor was going back n forth like it was getting stuck (maybe wear) thus causing the noise... LUCKILY i picked up the HVAC motor just for the hell of it from a local junkyard a week before.

maybe this also could lead to that little mix door plastic piece breaking...?

Mike - the screws dont tighten all the way for me either, actually the plastic around those screws are cracked and broken... I just did this a few days ago and if that happens I guess i'll have to make some new holes for the screws...or zip ties, they work pretty well and stay hidden

I think the bottom screws being loose or missing have a lot to do with the rest of the fasteners being loose or broken but they're so tough to get to and align. I think it would be easier to pull the seats out and work on them out of the car (4 bolts/1 connector)

Not to hijack your thread away from the back covers, (Congrats BTW,) but how'd you fix the sloshing sound? Mine sounds like water is just running everywhere - gurgle gurgle slosh slosh - but never seems to cause any problems so I haven't fixed it.

Do the 1993 and/or 1994 mix doors interchange?

Water sloshing sound behind dash area is caused by low coolant level, not any mechanical issue with mix doors or anything else

I haven't noticed any leaks but I'll check the levels. My problem sounds more of like a rattle. Like sticking a pencil in a fan. The sound goes away after a bit. I only hear it if the HVAC is on and the engine starts.

That sounds more like leaves or other debris caught in blower fan blades-remove glovebox and blower motor for inspection/cleaning{simple}

Its not a major issue at all. The motor isn't broken. with the center dashboard open I plugged in the HVAC and found that it controls this motor. I could recreate the sloshing sound when raising/lowering the temp in between 70-80 degrees.... The motor was twitching between those temps (going back/forth 1-2 notches like it was getting stuck) but it would still work as normal.

This is on my 94 and I replaced it with a motor from a 92 (they are the same design). Its been about 3 days now and I haven't heard the sloshing sound yet.. so I think everything is working fine again.

Cool. I've been noticing lately that my Q's heater isn't as hellish as it used to be. I would have it on 85* and then have to bring the temp back down from "Hell" and leave it at a more bearable temp. Now, it registers 85*, but it just doesn't feel like it. Since mine is a 92, I shouldn't have a mix-door problem right?

Ya... my heater isn't very much of a heater either nowadays, I read somewhere that replacing the radiator cap can fix that issue as mine does leak very slightly.

The mix door thing - Everyone seems to say that is an issue on the 94-96 Qs. If you look at the pictures on this page of this guys 94 Q45t zer...age=1 you will see the piece that usually breaks. Funny thing is I have a 94 Q45t but that piece is the same as a 92 model on my car, and its not black either like this guys. Maybe mine could be an early 94?
