Ive tried to undertsand wheels and tires, and pretty much read the last four pages on this forum but it dosent click. Im purchasing 26mm Aluminum 300ZX brakes for the front only, and i want to know what size tire/rim will clear them on a S13. I dont plan on coilovers anytime soon so thats out of the picture.. I just want everything to fit w/o fender rolling/ much rubbing. Also where i live, the roads are paved like the moon so that needs to be taken into consideration. I have been reading about 17x9... but i really dont know why... just want everything to fit right up with little to no hassle, but like everyone else i would like the biggest diameter/width that i can fit w/o issue. The car is a street car, and will probably only see the track once or twice. Thanks guys, and i know you get these questions everyday.

i see from your profile you have an s13

first question is is it a 91-93?

if yes then does it have the 7 spoke se alloys?

yes to both let me know and ill have you go check something, theres a possibility your stock wheels clear

this of course is going on the fact that you just want to clear the brakes, would you actually like a set of aftermarket wheels?

ok then i can throw that idea out the window...next question is what is your budget for the wheels

what size do you want...15s good luck clearing the brakes, i know one type that *may* fit but youd be pushing it

16s or 17s, depends on how you want it to look, but youll need at least 7 inches wide with like a +30 ish offset

if you had any specific models or looks in mind, or just a budget for now, let me know and ill see what i can find you

Thanks for the replys Nisomofly i cant thank you enough for helping me. I dont want to spend anymore than 1200 for wheels and tires. I can go a bit over that but not preferably. Preferably under. Ive been looking at the 5Zigen GN+ Pro racer Volk LE28N or GT-N( probably to pricey) Something in comparison to the two volks i listed in bronze and/or gold. I want it too look nice, but i do drive on the surface of the moon.( would prefer some 17's just because they look a little better) but im not that picky.. Thanks a million again man.

make sure you take notice that those wheels are mostly in 5 lug pattern. you have a s13 correct? then your choices are only in 4x114.

with a 1200$ budget you probably cannot afford anything from volk. their cheapest/lighter wheel should be ce28n and even in 16" sizes its about 1600+. almost everything thats 17" and forged is atleast 450 a piece not taking account most of those wheels are 5 lug only.

if you want 17s to just fit without trouble you can go anywhere from 17x7-17x8.5 just make sure the offset is +35 or lower.

i'd look into some cast wheels with your budget. dig through magazines etc to find a model you like and price. go from there

yep those gt-n's will run you over $2,000 shipped for the wheels alone

however if you add about $100 - $150, you can get 16" gram lights, and another $200 - $250 can get you 17" gram lights

these prices are for 2 models, the 5 spoke 57c, in bronze here:

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels...inted

and the 7 spoke 57s, in silver here:

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels...inted

you can get either of these wheels in the 2 colors i showed, in the prices i told you, and the prices i listed are including approximately $400 for tires, which is what you can figure on spending

Thanks Juujai for the reply. Yea i realize im looking for 4x114 but i guess the mistake on my part is that i was assuming the volks would work because they have like 12 holes going around the inside so i figured they fit both 4 and 5 lug. So i cant go wrong with a 17x8.5? Id like the most rubber i can get on the ground(yes i know this does not always mean more traction) what about offset/ anything below +35.. will i know a diffrence between that and say+15 HAS to clear the 26MM brakes.. Thanks again everyone

if you get the gram lights i listed, youd have to get either the 16x7 or the 17x7.5

on the 16x7 you could run a 215/50/16, on the 17x7.5 a 22/45/17

the 16x7 would be a +30 offset, the 17x7.5 a +22 offset

the reason you cant get a 17x8.5 gram light, although they do make them, is that the good offsets are for 5 lug, not 4 lug

Thanks for that research Nismofly... I appreciate it. 4 lug hubs suck... I cant find anything in a 17x7/7.5 or 17x8/8.5 or at least none in a multi spoke bronze.... looked at konig's enekis and 5zigen.. i guess i need to go back to the drawing board and look at every manufacture...

I guess i would go with one or the other in a 17x7.5 pattern in a +22 offset. Now i have an idea of what i need i can look at some other manufactures.. As long as i stick with a 17x7.5-8.5 and lower than a 35+mm offset everything will be peachy and ok right? Thanks for your help and thanks Nismofly for all the reaearch... the gram lights arent really doing much for me so ima try and find some diffrent ones in the dimensions i specified above.... thanks again.

What would be the effects of going with something with a 42+ offset or 45+ offset... there are so many more choices and styles i like with offsets this high? Thanks for bearing with me guys... Im almost there.

might not clear the brakes and wont look good

you know when wheels are sunken way into the wheel wells, just like the stock ones do, thats because the offsets are that high

http://mackinindustries.com/md....htmlAVS mODEL t6 17X7.5 35+mm offset.... Too much offset? Probably too pricey? I think im goint to just go with the 17x7.5 Gram ligh 57s and call it a day

basically anything out of mackin industries is going to be expensive, theyre the official (re: only) importers of a bunch of the most well known japanese brands

if you get the gram lights in that size make sure to get the +22 offset, just a reminder...youll probably have to call tire rack to get these because they might try to give you the ones up around +40

like my wheels were listed on the site as +32, but i called and come to find out they have +22, so thats what i got

Hey Nismo got another question. I was reading through SCC magazine( old one) and on there project Silvia they are running 17-7.5 wheels with Brembo brakes up front, and using a +43mm offset. and they dont have any clearance issues. Can i run this high offset on my car w/ same size rims and 26mm Z32 brakes? There doing it... i dont know if the brembo calipers are smallerr letting them clear or not and that car is 5 lug if that helps i really dont care too much how they look when there on the car just want the Z32 brakes too clear.. Becase i have found tons of wheels i like but there all like +40mm offset Thanks again

they didnt clear with just the wheel, hes running spacers on the front to clear both the brakes and coilovers

with your budget, you really have 3 choices for good fitting 4 lug wheels, 5zigen fn01rc, which everybody has, and the 2 gram light models i showed...theres a few others like falken hanabis that only have one size, which works with fender mods, but im not sure how much they cost

I feel your pain in your search for wheels. I am also looking at getting a new set. In my search I also found the falken hanabi's but don't know how well they fit with the 26mm calipers. I just recently came across rota D2 wheels also which are available in a wide variety of offsets for 4 lug(as low as +20). I imagine i'd have to wait for them but hey I'm too cheap to swap to 5 lug so i gotta pay the price. Again we come to the point of will they clear Z brakes. The four lug wheel battle is never ending but hopefully manufacturers catch on and start making better offsets.

Thanks for the post man. I swear it is areal headache.. Ive been e mailing manufac turers for the past week trying to find wheels in the right dimesnions. I am also to cheap to switch to five lug, but i think i am going to start doing research on the topic. Because i really dont want to spend 1200+ on rims that i really dont like. I wanted to have the wheels and brakes on before i go to Charlotte during spring break, ive been dying to drive the 240 on some nice hilly/curvy roads. Where my mom lives the back roads are paved to perfection, and i really want the bigger binders up front before I go.

I think pdm racing has the 5 lug hubs the cheapest I've seen but I don't know, I haven't looked in a while. You could always go the more difficult route and go with junkyard parts but I think i'd rather start with new parts.

Hey Nismo, i finally decided on wheels, and i just want to double check everything. I found Gram Lights 57Pro on hopupracing They have 17x8.0 +35 these will clear front 26mm z brakes right? Or would it be better and easier to just got with the 17x7.5 in +25 dosent matter too me unless that half inch wider would make a diffrence, ill go wither way. Thanks again

those all around or just fronts?

if you get them all around you can throw a 225/45/17 tire on and theyll be fine

they should clear brakes too yes, though im not sure on the spoke design of the 57pro, but im sure if its like any other gram lights or anything itll fit
