Post

Hey guys, I recently joined this forum because I picked up a 88 sentra, but while I'm here I figured I'd ask for a little comparison.

I bought a 2007 Honda Fit about 2 months ago. It seemed the most appealing to me out of the economy cars. So far nothing has gone wrong and I like it a lot, but would like to see if there is anything I missed out on with not picking another one, especially since the versa (in my opinion) was the next on my list if I didn't like the Fit.

So, what are your likes/dislikes about the Versa, and what made you pick it over the others?

What I liked: (in no particular order)

+ the color+ the overall styling+ the leg room (both front and back)+ the feel of the CVT+ the options and price

When I was looking them over (the fit, the aveo, and the v) I felt like the V came up as the winner hands down in mpg, range, price-to-options, and overall styling.

A thread you may like to read for more info is the following: zerothread/243115

Intelligent key - keyless ignition and entry system.6 Speed manualBluetooth.Above 3 items i like about Versa and FIT dont have it.And the mark up price for FIT was so much in Los Angeles (3000 to 4000), i don't know about other states, but i don't think they are less.

The mpg, styling, room are great for both cars.

But after i tested the FIT, the handling was better than the Versa.

Are you sure? It's easy to get high 30s and even past 40 MPG in a Fit. When is the last time you got such mileage in your Versa?

Thanks for your opinion.. I guess it is just what's best for different people. Personally I liked the Fit's styling better, but the Versa isn't bad in my opinion.

And that thread was good too, I actually just replied to it.

Keep in mind that when I was shopping for my V when the mpg was showing as 44mpg... there weren't any actual numbers yet because there weren't enough cars/miles for an accurate conclusion to be made. The range on the V was boasted at 420 miles, way farther than the other two.

Additional: I know I have made a few 40-44mpg highway trips in my V and I believe that Proxim has stated he's gotten 55 before... I had finally hit consistent 33's in my old V before I traded it, but I had only gotten to ~7700 miles.

Yeah, the MPG thing confused me too.. I doubt they're too much different, but in the other thread it said the Honda gets average "28.5 mpg"... which I get an average of about 35 on mine.... some people have *said* that they have gotten in the mid 40s at times.

With the horsepower/weight ratio, it SEEMS like the fit SHOULD get better mileage, but I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

The first Honda dealer I went to, the guy was a real a**, then I went to Toyota, and then to Nissan. The Nissan guys weren't helpful though, they didn't take me seriously, and I had money in my pocket. So I went to another Honda dealer and he was great.. threw me the keys to the last fit they had on the lot, let me test drive it. Seemed like he did all he could for me.

Did you sit in a Versa? Or test drive it?

I have the CVT hatch and it is SOOO quiet it is amazing.

And the comfort was very important. I can stick all three grandkids in the backseat and they have plenty of room. Also, I have to take my elderly in-laws on long trips for doctor's appointments and there is more room in the back seat than I had in my SUV.

However, if I were looking at a commuter car, the MPG might have been more of a deciding factor. Most of our miles, thought, are highway miles as we live 60 miles away from any shopping or doctors.

But the comfort and smooth ride was a huge decision maker for us. Hubby wanted a Civic but they were $4000 higher for the same featured car and no CVT.

I test drove it, it was pretty good. But the Fit was just as quiet to me, and as smooth - I actually thought smoother, and I liked the way it handled.

I will give the Nissan on the seat comfort. The seats were very comfortable, and I think one up on the Fit in that category. But the Fit is still comfortable... It kind of has that sporty feel to it, and even though it is slow, it still feels like I'm in somewhat of a sports car.

Plus, the interior room isn't much different I dont' think. I don't carry around a lot of people, but I haven't had anyone complain about the backseat. I also fit tons in the car, it utilizes its space very well. How's the cargo room of the Versa? As in packing things?

The Fit's engine is incredibly smooth and rev-happy, sometimes a bit too much so in a typical Honda fashion. The Versa's is not as smooth, but on the whole I think that the Versa is quieter than the Fit, probably due to more sound-damping material in use.

The ride is definitely smoother in a Versa, in my opinion. The rear seat is basically a limo. If the rear seat comfort is your primary selection criteria, the Versa wins hands down, even though the Fit, for its exterior dimensions, has an impressive amount of room inside.

However, as you mentioned, the Fit's handling is rather sharp. In terms of the confidence inspired, I don't feel that the Versa comes anywhere near the Fit. I drove both on the same twisty road once, and the Fit blew by asking to go faster while the Versa asked me to take it easy. I know that some part of it had to do with the quality of tires.

I have never had a chance to carry anything big in a Versa (I don't carry suitcases to test drives). But the luggage floor is deep, so I have a feeling it is a pretty usable space. However, the Fit's cargo space is nothing short of ingenious.

Well...

We are remodeling our home and trips to Lowe's and Home Depot are frequent. This was a concern when we gave up our SUV.

HOWEVER....

After one trip to OKC we came home with (back seats down):

Five boxes of laminate wood flooring;Six square feet of unfinished oak flooringFour 8 ft pieces of trim (it sits on the dash between the seats, but it works!)

THEN we went to the furniture store and bought a new unassembled dinette set:http://www.furnitureontheweb.c...32841

Now, when we went to the pick up at the store and hubby says, "Load 'er up," the warehouse guys started laughing. Hubby says, "Load 'er up." So they picked up the huge box and it went in with NO TROUBLE. I smiled sweetly and said, "It's a Nissan Versa."

THEN, we went back to Home Depot and bought a butcher block island, also unassembled.

We topped that off with a trip to Sam's and $100 worth of groceries.

Then we got something to eat at a fast food place and whined about the total wrong placing of the cupholders and came home.

So cargo is no problem.

Somewhere on this forum is a picture with a man who carried two yard trash cans in the back of the hatch.

BTW, if you look around on this forum, the biggest complaint is the cupholders. We pretty much hate where they are

And on our portal page is a link to the article about tire stuffing a versa... putting in a set of mounted swamper tires for a jeep, and other stuff. And it all fit, with the hatch able to close completely.

I guess the placement isn't all that great, but I'm just glad to have cup holders in the first place...

A base S manual is $12,500, which includes a long list of standard features.

A fully loaded SL CVT with convenience, ABS, sunroof, sport, and audio packages is close to $20k.

My 6-speed SL with convenience and satellite was $16k.

Did you get ABS?

If you get ABS w/o the sport package, you do NOT get the convenience package, which is what has the iKey in it.

You can build your own Versa at:

http://www.nissanusa.com/

It will also give you a general idea of what the inventory is at dealers in your area.

He's in Canada. There's no Intelligent Key for the Versa in Canada.

Man, thats the only thing I wish came with the Fit is a sunroof... all my previous cars have had them, so its different without one. It seems that the base Versa is a little cheaper than the base Fit, but the fully loaded Fit is cheaper than the fully loaded Versa.

There's no intelligent key, but there's keyless entry... the intelligent key just keeps you from having to take the key out of your pocket right? the doors just unlock when the key is near and you can start the car without putting it in the ignition?? I think thats' how my friends prius works.

In Japan, Honda offers a car called Airwave, which is a station wagon version of the Fit, with a gigantic "skyroof" that open up half the roof. The intel key is available for the JDM Fit as well. In fact, most every car in Japan is available with the equivalant of the Intelligent Key, even in a $7,000 660-cc kei car.

oo skyroof must be nice. and the airwave looks good, i don't know why they didn't bring that over here.

intelligent key.. ehh.. kind of a good perk, but definitely not needed. i know nissan has that micra, which looks like a midge versa. But when I went to england I saw a few convertibles... looks yarisy, but a little better with the droptop.

Europeans and Japanese are all about those small cars... It won't be too long before everyone is like that too.

The Micra in Europe is the JDM March. Drove one in Japan, and it had an Intelligent Key and e-4WD. Had a really perky 1.4 L engine, but boy, it was loud as hell, sort of defying its cute looks.

I think Honda was afraid the the Fit and Airwave would cannibalize each other in the U.S. The similar reason applies to Nissan who is not (likely) bringing the NOTE here which would surely cannibalize the Versa. But they may bring the Cube, either in this current iteration or the next. That'd be interesting!
