Well today we got our first dump of snow and I was really looking forward to testing my AC and new winter tires out.....I must say....Im not really impressed. Not sure if I should put some sand bags in the trunk. I didnt feel that in control, maybe its the light steering?? Any thoughts from some winter commuter's?

What are the tires? Some perform better than other, also VDC is really a must for the snow.

When it first snowed here, we only got about 2 inches...

My brother/sister said they didn't have any issue running their Stocks, they have 2.5S/CVT.

I didn't have any issues with my set up, the Hankook iPike 409 (with VDC) handled it very well and compared to my last winters, Kumho's KW11 they are extremely quite.

It may be the tires. I have a 2.5, so VDC isn't an issue. You live in Canada; WY is similar in winter and front wheel drives have always been adequate. (Barring the occasional 12 inches+white-out)

I'm sure others will chime in, but I've never heard of putting sand bags in the trunk of a front wheel drive car!?!?!

Nokian Hakkapalita RSI's....and nokians are great I had them on my old car last winter. The AC has a light steering (which I can get the hang of in the snow) counter steering and such but it seems like the As* end of it wants to swing out, fish tailing....which can be fun but not in the middle of a busy intersection. My braking is responsive (thanks to abs) which leads me to believe the tires are good it just has a light derrière. hope my french is spelt properly...

Don't get frustrated. A new car may require a slight adjustment in winter driving. I know I had to get used to driving a V6 Acura in the winter when I was accustomed to driving a 4banger Accord...just have to be more gentle on the gas pedal, thats all.

Doing this is actually VERY bad on a FWD car, You're putting unnecessary weight on a non drive wheel, which then causes your car increased break time due to increased weight. Good example look at the suvs, they have to stop way back compared to a car because of the mass they have to slow down.
