how long did you try to crank it? I've seen some motors require a few extended (30 seconds) cranking sessions.

also, are you sure it wasn't getting spark? did you smell a lot of gas? that would be an indication of no ignition. try pulling the number one coil pack and holding it next to the valve cover while someone cranks the motor and see if spark happens.

i crack it various times and three times extended. that's the think it seemed like i wasn't getting spark the the fact the there was smoke coming out and that the exhaust manifold was hot should mean that there was some kind of combustion, the other thing i found out was that i had an exhaust leak, where the turbo connects to the manifolds one of the nuts was lose and the other was completley missing the nut, i guess i failed to check that when i got the motor.

have fun with that. I just had to replace that gasket because the front two nuts backed off their studs following my turbo rebuild. even with that particular leak, the car will start and will run, although it will quack under load until you get those nuts back on and tightened down.

check your timing and make sure it's been set to 15 degrees BTDC. The timing may be waaaaay off and preventing the car from firing properly.

Another weird issue that doesn't pop up very often is that you could have some crossed wires in the coil packs. I doubt that that's the case, but my friend had an issue like that pop up on one of the swaps he was doing. The motor had been junked because of an easy to fix short.

i believe that my fuel lines are on properly but i'll double check tomarrow, what's the best way to set the time with the timing light, what wire do i have to hook it up on?

I have an extra coil pack sitting around with a piece of spark plug wire stuck up in it. That way I have my plug wire to hook my light up to. What you can try is to hook it up to the negative cable off of coil pack 1. Also, some engines have this, and some engines don't. There is an inductive timing loop in the back that you can attach the pickup to. But like I said, not all engines seem to have it.

But the engine needs to be running to have the timing light work. My suggestion is to pull the CAS out and go through the process of lining it back up. http://www.store.yahoo.com/pha....html

there's the how to on resetting the CAS

the FPR should be routed to the return hose (which is the bottom of the two hard lines, if i remember right). The top hard line goes to the fuel filter, and that should be a quick jump to the line between the intake runners.
