Hi all, this is my first post here in NICO, I've been reading your posts since few months ago.
I have a 95 300ZX NA coupe. This car seems to have been in a time capsule for many years, all interiors and motor are in perfect condition. Original mileage is 16K, yes, only 16k miles on it. All systems are in perfect working condition with exception of rear wiper, it was removed by first owner. Smell of the leather when you open the door is priceless...
It had already installed an exhaust system, that sounds very nice and a set of a 350Z wheels with almost new tires. And of course and updated sound system.
Two weeks ago I installed a new intake system, Injen kit. Upgrade was successful and fun, it took me about 3 hours to perform it and results were very noticeable.
I've inspected all hoses and they look very nice no cracks or leaks but I'm concerned about timebelt. I'm thinking to perform a 60K service but local workshops do not want to perform this service (it's not a common car).

Thing is, I'm thinking to perform it myself. I have some mechanical skills, I've studied the service manual and some guides online. Do you think I should do it? Or wait to find a workshop willing to do it?

Thanks

If the belt does not appear to be cracking or stretching, I would leave it alone for a couple more miles, like 20k more miles. And if you have never done a timing change on a car similar to the layout of the vg30, I would recommend you have a shop do it. I blew my first vg30dett doing the timing chain myself thinking it was easy, I learned the hard way, had to get a new long block.

Um, get that belt changed ASAP!!! You only have 16k on the car but you have a rubber part that is almost 20 years old. Belts get old and brittle, and it will break and ruin your day and the engine.

The Timing belt change is not really that hard, just take your time and document everything. I would recomend someone that has done one on a 4 cam engine before. If you don't know anyone, follow the FSM word for word. The best advise, when you get it on, count the cogs before starting it up. This is the only true way to make sure it is on correctly. Don't cheap out on the belt and bearings, as this is vital for the engine. The best kit that I have found, not price wise but kit wise..

Gates and GMB are just fine and have had no issues with them. Upgrade to silicon bypass hoses, ramey idler studs, and the little things like that. Well worth it, just think of it as cheap security. Yes I know it gets expensive fast, but think how much a rebuild or new engine will cost.

If you need help or have any questions, all of are here to help and some have done multiple changes.

Thanks for your answers.

I'm from Monterrey, Mexico. This car was very popular here but now, after 20 years, it's very difficult to see one in good conditions.
Here she is:

Actually car is black color but it has a white plastic film. It's supposed to be easily removed when desired.

I have called two referred workshops and waiting for a quotation for timebelt service, but both sounded very doubt about it. Today will try a third one and keep waiting.

I have found a local workshop that has done this service before and they quote about $250 for labor. Next week will be the date.

if this is your project car then I would suggest doing it yourself. The experience alone is well worth it.

if this your DD then I would suggest getting a "reputable" shop to do it. Consider that this car has very low miles.
