First steps?

Ok, so I've been driving a stock ka for bout a year now and i just paid it off and will be sittin on about $1000 (not much i know), and I want to know what the best thing would be to do. I'm looking at getting an hks hi-power exhaust. Would that be the best thing, if not does anybody have any suggestions on what to do first and where to go from there? And i'm talking strictly performance, not any cosmetics.

if it was mine i would go with intake, throttle body, header and exhaust. do the basic's first. thats just my 2 cents
