Hello all. Just my first post here on the site, would like to say it looks like a very usefull place.

Um.

I am looking into buying an early 90's model 240sx fastback and doing the sr20det swap. I am seeing that I can probably pick up a 240sx for about 1,000 dollars as I really don't care about the condition of engine and transmission as I am going to replace them anyway.

I guess I really need to know anything and everything.

I have found a guy in town and have heard him mentioned in tuner circles throughout my state and he has done numerous swaps. He charges 3,000 dollars to get the engine, transmission, and ECU and to put it all in.

I really want to do as much of the work as possible by myself so I can learn all about the car.

One area I really need help in. Money. Right now I have about 1,500 dollars to buy the car. I can sell my Honda for about 2,000 to put toward the swap. I also would like the replace the downpipes, underpulley, clutch, and flywheel. How much will all of that cost and, though easier, would it be worth the agonising (sp?) wait and the time being without a car to go ahead and do all that while the engine is out of the car. Also, where can you get performance parts for the sr20det engines?

Really any help will be extremely appreciated. There seems to be a lot of pages on here that will help if I read through, but I just thought I would drop a post to bug you...

Thanks~Sean

If you can get a finished swapped 240sx for a total price of under $5000, its a really good deal.

Parts can be had from nearly any of the sponsers on the right of the screen you are looking at or in the advertising directory.-heavythrottle-enjuku-phase2-etc....http://www.nicoclub.com/addirectory.shtml

And welcome to NICO! Dont hesitate to ask questions. Good luck with your project, it is very acheivable with a little hard work and determination.

try to find a 91+ the swap would be easier and u might be able to do it yourself hehe. if not have that guy do it. 3k is the regular price for a swap. to switch from auto to 5speed is more of course..so try to get a 5speed..even though its not hard at all.. if u get a front clip everything for the conversion is there. a clutch can run u 300+, u dont really need a flywheel just get it resurfaced.. if not a findanza one will be fine thats around 280 or so. get a megan racing downpipe and turbo elbow(change it while it engine is out or it will be a BEEYATCH to do when the engine is it).. the megan racing part is not too bad and very low priced...and if u upgrade to a s15 turbo u wont have to grind the inside of the elbow out ^_^.. those two items should run u about 200 bucks. get the 240sx first.. then save up for the engine swap..if u happen to get a 91+ 240sx u could rebuild ur old engine and turbo it.. and make even more power than an sr20det.! at the same amount of BOOST!.. pulleys should be the last thing it doesnt really make much power....make sure u keep ur a/c and power steering very important...btw sell your honda..or save up..and keep ur honda was a daily driver... if u have to get pulleys the greddy ones are around 280 for the set. good luck on your conversion. if all else fails ...THERES A SEARCH BUTTON ON THE TOP RIGHT ...its a good tool..use it =)
