Finally getting back to normal after our 18 inches of snow. Probably not a lot by Northeast standards, but well above normal for Iowa.

Having purchased our Murano only a month ago I was a bit excited about driving the 60 miles to work with an imminent blizzard in the forecast. First thing I noticed was how stable it felt on the packed snow. Almost too much as it was probably giving me a sense of false security, but comfortable nonetheless on the new Yokohamas. Outstanding traction.

I encountered quite a bit of deep snow (around a foot and a half that I had to get through and it did well as long as I was easy on the throttle. I did, however, notice the “service engine soon” light on after negotiating some deep drifts. After reading the manual I decided to let it go after checking the fuel cap (I filled that morning) and a couple days later it went out.

The AWD light never did come on except when I had it locked for the drifts. Will it come on when extra traction is needed and power is sent to the rear wheels?

Funny thing was I made it all the way home in the worst part of the blizzard only to get stuck 50 yards from my driveway because I misjudged a drift! Grrr. Which brings me to wonder why Nissan angled the front of the Murano to go up and over snow only to increase the chances of packing more snow underneath rather than pushing it in front. At least you can back away from what you push. That was my only real complaint of the day, otherwise I was very happy.

I also have an '06 S AWD and I was VERY impressed with its handling in even the deepest snow. I bought my Murano because my Versa kept getting stuck (it didn't take much, believe me!). I was reassured of my purchase after driving in a severe snowstorm last week, and finding it very difficult to get it stuck. I'm running on the factory tires (they're brand new Goodyear Eagle LSes). I bought mine with 67k, and it's now pushing 86k.

The Murano does handle very well in snow and ice. The AWD does not light up when it automatically engages.

Thanks. I thought maybe I just didn't notice it.

I'm not a sports follower, either, but I can say if he's the boys basketball coach he's doing a wonderful job.

I hate the winter.. zero degrees right now and supposed to get colder. Yuck. I put remote start on the Murano this past weekend and the wife is loving me again.

Got my snow tires installed last week. And we've got some snow. 09 Murano SL AWD did well on factory tires. But it's like velcro with the snow tires. No spinning, even on packed ice. Of course it helps if you don't push the gas too hard.My wifes Saturn Vue. (front wheel drive), spins a bit even with snow tires. But I think it has more power off the line, so you have to be easy on the gas. Maybe I'm used to the Murano. Love watching my neighbors in their 4x4 spinning. They need new winter tires I suspect. But makes me feel good anyways.Murano feels solid in the snow and on the hi-way during heavy snow.Looking forward to the winter now. Haven't gotten into anything too deep yet, but deep enough to hear the packed snow/ice on the bottom of the Murano as I move thru it.
