I'm leaving tonight to drive from Jax to Dallas in the new Q. I have a convention there and decided to drive instead of fly. The windows are tinted, XM is installed and she is ready to go. The tires were originally set at 32psi. When I put on the new wheels my tire guy raised the air to 40psi. I took the car in to Atlantic Infiniti for an oil change and they lowered it to 36. What do you guys think. The tires are 245 45 18's. The car rides a little "tighter" at the higher pressures (especially with the suspension set in sport mode) but I never cared for a Cadilac ride. I like to feel the road. I'm going from Jax to Lake Charles Lon Sunday. Nothing like a side trip to a Casino on a business trip :wile:

I just don't want to see any :abducttoo

Remember that psi increases as tires get hot, and driving through Southeast for hours will make for very hot tires.

I'm sure most of the roads are asphalt, but if you run across any concrete roads with joints then 36 psi or higher will be punishing.

I say go back to 32 psi cold.

I'd keave it at 36 or even increase fronts to 38 cold as you will drive fast in a heavy vehicle.I run 39 fronts 37 rears, even in town.

I run your same wheels/tires at 36psi cold, and they do great, so my opinion would be to leave em where they're at. Plus remember that one person's gauge could be 5-10 psi from another peron's. I'd buy yourself a digital gauge, they have decent ones at Pep Boys, and see for yourself what its really set at. They also have decent mechanical dial gauges, but they get out of calibration way too easily. One bounce in the glove box is sometimes all they need.

Oh, the reason I mention the gauges is because a very reputable tire/alignment shop set mine to 38, and all three of my gauges read about 28, and that was even when the tires were warm.

I took her to my shop today and had them set at 36. I'll fool with the sport mode out on the road and see how it feels. Now all I gotta do is load up on cd's and catch a little shuteye!

Unless they have done something to I-10 in Louisiana since November, BEWARE, cause you are going to wish you had only 20 psi in your tires! Very punishing road surface! And, I-20 was not that much better! Huey Long economics still at work!

If you plan on that kind of road trip. Make SURE you take along a V1. it's the only way to travel.

Hmmmm, now you've got me wanting to take a road trip. That's what summer is for!

Yes. It is very accurate. I also have a digital gauge and it always matches it or within .5 lbs.

OK I got back this weekend and I am glad to report very positive feedback from the Q. I drove 75 to 85 mph for most of the trip and averqaged 23.5mpg. The car performed flawlessly. Seats were very comfortable and supportive for the entire trip. I finally rigged a Delphi Sky-fi XM unit that played thru a cassette adapter. It isn't great but the sound is OK until I can come up with a more permanent solution. All in all it was a great trip. The valet at the Wyndam Anotole in Dallas really liked the car. He said he hadn't seen to many of them and it was very unique. He really liked the headlight setup. :thumbup

I told him he had good taste :bearchug

I'm pleased to hear about your mileage!!! I too am taking a road trip in my 92 Q next month, from Spokane WA to St Louis MO.

I installed my Delphi XM tuner via RF module, placed it right in front of the shifter, so now I cant go to first gear. It was originally down in the center console below but it was hard to see and reach there.

I also need to get my AC recharged this weekend.

Unfortunately the new Q's don't have a way of adding XM yet other than the setup I did. I had a 92 Q many years ago and it was a great car, burgundy with tan leather. I had added some Stillen equipment, spoiler and Fitapaldi rims. Thatwas a sweet ride. I drove the hxxl out of her and sold her with 110,000 miles on her. The guy that bought her drove her for several more years and I finally lost track of the car. Good luck on your trip!

Hopefully, next month will allow us to have our annual fix of west of the Mississippi driving! Driving is not much fun back east! Planned trip to Western NM (Silver City), making like that ol boll weavil, looking for a home! Sure hope Louisiana got their part of I-10 fixed! But, I do not hold high hopes! I will drop the tires down to lowest possible psi at first rest stop if they have not resurfaced. Put them back up when I hit Sabine River and Texas! Whooeeee! Westword Ho!

Just go fast enough to only hit the peaks of the bumps.

No they haven't fixed the interstates. They are working on them in a few places. I-20 is bettter than I-10.
