Hello all....Just pickedup a 98 GXE, 136k, auto...Heres my problem! Car's suspension is wasted! Wasnt all that bad in the test ride around the block, but now at highway speeds its real real bad....Front dosent seem as bad as rear but i'm gonna assume all 4 struts are original....

I was wondering if i should get an upgraded strut or stick with a generic strut? I'm not looking to lower the ride, just maybe improve over factory?

Car will be mainly for commuter purposes....

Also is there anywhere online that sells complete packages for what i need?

Ok one more question.....Along with the strut, what else should be replaced??? Just dont want any suprises when strut is removed and i dont have any bushings or whatever else....

Welcome to NICO.

For OEM parts, best pricing is from NICO sponsor, IoS (Infiniti of Scottsdale) - infinitipartsUSA.com a.k.a. everythingnissan.com where you get @ 25% off MSRP. The staff there are very knowledgeable about Nissan/Infiniti parts.

Below is a link taken from the Maxima/I30/I35 FAQ 'sticky' re Maxima spring/strut replacement.

I would recommend an upgrade, personally. Not from a performance perspective, since you're cars main purpose is commuter. I would throw out the recommendation for what I had: Tokico Illumina kit. It does lower it 1.5 inches, but, the suspension is adjustable soft to firm. I used the car for delivering pizzas and family trips. On family trips I would set it to fully soft, and it was an amazing ride. I also am including a link to another suspension thread so you can look at all the different options out there.

If I remember correctly those should be ok with stock springs.

Here is a thread about changing the front struts. zerothread/214767 Replacing the rear shocks is conceptually the same. You just have to get in the trunk to remove the top mount.

You will want to replace the strut bearings when replacing the front struts. You'll need to get them from a dealership. Call Joe and tell him you're a NICO member http://www.infinitipartsusa.co...id=55It would also be wise to replace the sway bar and end link bushings. Check out http://www.suspension.com for Energy Suspension bushings(they make a noticeable difference).

To further improve handling get a front strut tower bar and a rear sway bar.
