Hey, everybody!

I am new to the forum, and Versa-ownership. Got my 2009 Versa SL in December.

I come to you with a question: I got a maintenance reminder from Nissan saying my car is due for its first 3000 mile/3 month oil change/lube. The car only has about 1600 miles on it. The Internet is split on this--have any of you found it better or worse to do your first oil change early (ie, for breaking in the engine or whatever) or is it better to wait until 3000 miles even on a new engine?

Just wanted to see if anybody had any experience with this!

Thanks!

I use dino oil. I did my first oil change at 3k and then 5k every time after.

I would stick to the 3 month/ 3750 miles to keep up with the warranty. I never come close to the 3 months. Got mine in September and Im at about 9K. I got the first 2 services done to it. If you take it to the dealer watch out for their add ons. I only get the oil changed and the tires rotated. The manager at Nissan service told me that only the oil changes were needed to keep the warranty. At $30 a change I figure its easiest and best to take it to them. Just my $0.02

Every 3k miles or whatever the brand of oil says on how many months.

I change mine every 3k, and I use synthetic. Overkill eh?

Depends on your driving habits but many drivers change at 3000 miles or three months. There are three schedules, though. "Premium, One and Two. The second one calls for changes every 7500 miles or 6 months if you do more highway driving. They also recommend a "Premium Schedule" for the "ultimate in preventive maintenance."

You don't need to change it at 1600 miles unless you wish to put an oil you prefer. I use Mobil 1 and have for almost 20 years in all my vehicles. I'm very satisfied.

But changing every 3750 is fine unless you have driving habits that fit the description for schedule 2.

Did the first on our Versa at 1,500 miles and every 4,000 after. Now has 22, 000.

I would stick to the 3 months or 3750 miles for the first oil change. At 7500 miles, change the oil to Mobil1 fully synt and change it every 7500 miles (with filter change too).

definitely overkill! Dino oil now is good for 5 k to 7.5 k. Synthetic 10K or even more. If you stay with 3k intervals, may I suggest Mobil oils since I work for them. Help the stock price! We even state our oils are good for those intervals when we would certainly benefit from more oil changes.

The internet is a collection of people with opinions; most not based upon fact of any sort. See my previous post in this thread. Fred

It is also full of drones specifically programmed to repeat unsubstantiated information. By all means, change oil as often as possible with the most expensive oil you can find, even those that promise to enhance a certain member of your body. This stagnant economy could appreciate more of your dollars in circulation, and those in the oil and marketing business can rest easy at night thinking their jobs are more secure with each dollar spent.
