I am a new owner of G37s. I have few questions about oil change. I bought G37s brand new. I my maintenance book said 3750 mile or 3 month to get oil chanage, but someone told me that first oil change should be around 7K miles. And the guy at the dealer said that G37s uses special oil imported from Japan and I should bring to nearest infiniti dealer to do the oil change. I know he is just trying to get me to bring the car to dealer to get my money. But I am just checking if this is true...

The earlier you change the first oil in the car before 3750 miles, the better.

YES there is a special Ester based oil for the G37. If you don't want to pay the dealer to service your car, then atleast get the oil from them. And keep ALL the receipts for the oil and filters, to eliminate any warranty issue down the road.

Personally, if I wasn't a tech and didn't have the access to a lift and all the tools, I would have the dealer SERVICE my car. Not just oil changes.

By doing the SERVICE you do several things.

1. Properly maintain you new expensive purchace2. Build a reputation and relation ship w/ the dealer, who will be more likely to help you out of there is an issue even after warranty has run out.3. Resale value. Cars that have all the maintenace record w/ them have a higher trade in/resale value.

But it is you car. And if you want to use store brand oil and filters, then be my guest. Just remember. You get what you pay for.

I would also run the ester oil if I had a new G37... But I would change it myself

That is my .02

Welcome to NICO

Here is my $.02

Well I've been reading all these recent posts on oil and I am not convinced that anyone needs to spend huge amounts of money on any special oil unless you are using your G in competition.I gave my G35 its first oil change at 1000 mi and every 3k- 3.5k after. I have given my G its 22nd oil change a few weeks ago and it will get its 23rd oil change in a couple of weeks. I use

and have no problems. I generally use Infiniti Factory Filters that I purchase at the dealer.I've been changing my own oil for over 40 years. I get good MPG on the road and have no complaints.

I have been changing my own oil for 30 years.

Recently I had my first internal engine problem ever!It was with my wife's 05 G35S.The dealer tried to give me some sh** about doing the oil changes myself, but I think that it normal. (A major source of revenue for a dealer is the service dept. )I gave them my records and filter receipts and the work was 'approved'(Again, in 30 years this was the first time I had ever been questioned about service records and the first time one of my engines had to be opened up and I've owned a bunch of FURD's in the past.....)

Anyway, going forward, I'll continue to keep my filter receipts and will start keeping my receipts for oil.

The dealership said that by me doing the oil changes myself, it will take a little more time to get approval from Infiniti to do the warranty work....only means that I get to keep their loaner a little longer .

If I owned a G37, I would REALLY be reading up on why Ester based oil is suggested for them and would probably being using it if I felt it was needed.
