First Oil Change Miles ?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I know the dealer recommends first oil change at 3750 miles but is that necessary or can I go longer? when would you do it? Thanks

dealers always want you to do oil changes sooner which means more profit for them. The owners manual says depending on your driving you could go 3750 or 7500 miles for each oil change. With my driving, I could go 7500 for every oil change but I figured I will be safer and easier to remember and change oil every 5000 miles and my service tech agreed that every 5000 miles (mostly highway) is fine for oil. i am about 400 miles away from 10000 miles so I am just about ready for another oil change. To answer your question my first oil change was at 5100 miles.

This is a good topic. I am reading about break-in period, and some suggested to do an oil change at 1000miles to get rid of the particles. Seems like so called break-in period and whether there's a need for break-in is debatable by experts. Wonder if anyone else have any new info to add. The manual says do not rev over 4000rpm during the rev-in period, and do not drive at constant speed for an extended period (no cruise control).

Oh.. talking about break-in, I gotta rant and get this out of my system or I will not be able to sleep tonight. I picked up my EX35 2 days ago, so it's still in the "baby" period. So I've been very light on the gas pedal, you know, don't wanna stress my EX35 at least till it's broken in. Today I drove it to work and let 2 coworkers to drive it. Both guys knows a lot about cars, first guy is really considerate, he is aware the EX35 is in the break-in period and assured me he will not rev it. So that went well. Then come my boss who is always considerate, so I thought he would not treat it like a lease car. Big mistake, he revved it I mean ripped it... $*@&&!*#&#. When he did that, oh.. I regretted for not mentioning about break-in before he drove, so regretted for letting him drove my EX.

So from that great feeling of driving a new car, I sank to a stage of great regret, cursing, felt so stupid, repeatedly hating myself the entire day for letting anyone else to drive my brand new EX. @&*$&^!&@##!^ .. , I really gotta get this out of my system. Man... what can I say, he's my boss. This is my 2nd car, and first brand new car and a very nice one too. I have not even revved it... kept consoling myself to let it go.

Lessons learned and note to self, DO NOT let anyone else to drive your EX. Whew... now my heart seems to beat normally now, it's been boiling inside the entire day. Sorry for going off topic.

For warranty purposes I'd stay within the guidelines of your driving habits and maintain a file of all your receipts.

I am personally going with the 3750 point. I wont hit that mark in 3 months per the other requirement but I'm fairly close so I'm sticking with that.

The 7k mark I wouldnt personally push it to.

Break in is another debate. The odds of anything happening from one or two spirited runs on a "fresh" engine is probably very small. I wouldnt make it a habit through.
