I recently got an Injen SRI and a custom flowmaster 3" exhaust on my 3.5se. Before the mods I was averaging ~25 mpg highway doing 70. Drove from NJ to PA to visit family for Easter weekend (100 miles) doing 70 and averaged this:

Does this seem unsually high to anyone else with a 3.5? I thought 30 was going to be a lot to ask for and I'm averaging MORE than that. Absoulutely thrilled :)

That is quite high.

I know that my dash calculations are not always accurate. I use the mileage app on my phone to keep track.

But when on cruise control going around 65mph, I can get around 30mpg; which is very close to the real calculation. But with city + highway driving, and heavy on the throttle, I average around 17.5mpg.

It's not un-acheivable....this was my avg. in my 3.5 after a ~100 mile round trip driving about 65mph. I didn't hand calculate this specific trip, but normally when I do it's within 1-1.5mpg. My mods are aem intake, y-pipe, and nismo exhaust. That was driving like a grandma, but it's possible. I think "opening" up the intake/exhaust flow with bolt-ons can improve mpg's, but the hard part is driving slow once you have the mods lol.

kinda OT, but this was my avg. doing the exact same ~100 mile round trip @ 65mph in my 2004 e60 545i

Keep in mind that it has a 4.4L V8 with 325hp and 330tq. :-0

seems a tad low, when I drive normally, i.e. 70mph, passing people, not really trying to be efficient I manage 26-27. Do you have a y-pipe or intake?

Remember though, the epa est. on the window sticker has hwy mpg listed at like 26 I think, at least back in 08.
