A young Army specialist, Salvatore A. Giunta, took a bullet to the chest but was saved by the heavy plates of his body armor. Shaking off the punch from the insurgent round, he jumped up and pulled two wounded soldiers to safety before grabbing hand grenades and running up the trail to where his squad mates had been on foot patrol.

There, he saw a chilling image: Two insurgents hauling one of his American comrades into the forest. Specialist Giunta hurled his grenades and emptied the clip in his automatic rifle, forcing the insurgents to drop the wounded soldier. Still taking fire, he provided cover and comfort to his badly wounded teammate until help arrived.

Stuff like that makes me want to enlist. Or at least take classes in Military Law and aim for JAG.

out of curiosity, can you serve in the IDF and still be eligable for US citizenship? I know the answer is yes, but i was under the understanding, (according to the pages of my passport) that if you serve in any other nations armed forces, you are automatically inelgable for US citizenship.

On a side note, we have required service in Syria. I paid to get exempted from it. Upon turning 18, the Selective Service form you have to subit here, got me a ton of calls from recruiters, esp since i spoke fluent arabic. Once i told them that i had required service in syria, the calls mysteriously stopped.

I'm not sure if you can, but with an ally with mandatory service like Israel, I don't see how we could feasibly restrict it.
